In our minds, we are all under 40, slim, full head of hair, all our own teeth, no aids for seeing or hearing, no aches and pains. However, this is the real world and we are wasting time seeking a fantasy that does not exist. We are all real people, most of us with a few pounds to lose, glasses or hearing aids, or whatever, at our age. All I want is active, kind, good sense of humor, and a positive attitude. Is this you? It's a beautiful Friday and tomorrow could be even more beautiful if you meet the right one. Maybe one whose charm and intellect you find very attractive, who is honest, caring, and even tons of chemistry. Am I that person? No way to find out except to meet. Are you the one? Maybe......

Seeking a classy elegant man between the ages of 60-70 for discreet get togethers, fun, wine, and romance. I work different in different areas because I do healthcare, that's why you see three differnet cities there. I am seeking someone honest, gentle, romantic, genuine. I will disclose more information in a later email including my name, age, etc, and we might also exchange pics. I look foward to hearing from you and having a romantic adventure. You should be willing able to travel a short distance, willing to host, and willing to have a great long term romance.

Nothing at this point. If the doc said you had "slight" hearing loss in one ear, don't sweat it. Now, if he said you have some condition that will result in progressive hearing loss, then you need to look into hearing aids or the possibility of ear surgery. Best thing to do now to protect yourself from further hearing loss is (a) don't listen to music too loud, and (b) wear hearing protection if you're in an environment where you'll be exposed to loud noises, like using power tools or going to concerts.

Try contacting a company that makes hearing aids and ask
them if they could send you one. Tell them about your chosen
assignment. Give them all of the information you can. The more
information you pass onto them, the better your chances are
that you will get several working examples, along with literature
and product support. As for the FM Transmitter... you may
want to purchase something like a Mr. Microphone, take it all
apart, and use the circuitry to suit your needs. Or, you could
build one from scratch... Talk to your science Teacher.

want to purchase something like a Mr. Microphone, take it all
apart, and use the circuitry to suit your needs. Or, you could
build one from scratch… Talk to your science Teacher.

In 2007, the average hearing aid in the US sold for just under $2000 each. You can expect to find a range anywhere from just under $1000 to over $3000 a piece. Why the cost? They're very sophisticated micro-computers, individualized to each specific person's needs, extremely small, and become obsolete as quickly as other consumer electronics yet are sold in relatively small numbers (think big screen TVs when they first came out), just to name a few reasons.

My best advice is to stay away from gimmicky ads in the paper and coupon deals...seek out a recommendation from an audiologist after a thorough hearing exam. Not all hearing aid dispensers are audiologists so make sure you are seeing a hearing health care professional (ie. an audiologist) not a salesperson. You can ask your primary care physician who they recommend, or ask your insurance company who is on your plan.

If cost is a concern, seek out the best hearing aid you can afford as they will last about 5 years on average. Sound quality is proportionate to cost, and matching you up with a hearing aid successfully means getting features that will work well for how you plan to use it. Ask about payment plans, use your health care spending account if you have one, and see if you qualify for any discounts through your health insurance (although they are rarely covered.)

Firstly, I think you should see an audiologist, a lot of ear centers that just dispense hearing aids aren't really qualified to determine what ear, etc. An audiologist will give you better service and be able to help you make the decision, they're also a lot better about customer service. Hearing aids are generally worn in the worse ear unless the ear is unaidable for some reason. I don't know your history, but if you have substantially more loss in one ear than the other your center should have referred you to a neurologist, as that can be a sign of an 8th nerve tumor. Hopefully, your uneven loss is explainable (you shoot guns a lot on that side, etc). If it is, I would aid the worse ear, especially since not aiding it can cause your hearing to worsen, but that also goes for your other ear, so you really should consider two hearing aids. The behind the ear models are really tiny and totally unnoticeable now and you won't have to deal with an earmold which can cause wax build-up and ear infections, check out Oticon Deltas. Moderate to severe is a huge range and some severe to profound losses are difficult to aid, your center may also be worried you won't be happy with the results from aiding your poorer ear, again, an audiologist would explain this to you. Ideally, you should get two aids to preserve the hearing you have in both ears, if not, I guess you'll have to choose which is worse, slowly becoming completely deaf in your poor ear, or gradually losing more hearing in your better ear until you have to aid that, too. Good luck and feel free to contact me with specific questions!

Completely agree. Someone somewhere convinced them that they had to be the bigger party and attempt to end the polarization of our political landscape. The problem is, the GOP has to *want* to end that polarization. But why would they? It has made them powerful. What they Dems should have done was make them pay, not sing kumbaya. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, etc., should be in prison trading cigarettes for their lives.

Hi, I'm an Audiologist.

Miracle Ear is a company that manufactures hearing aids and has a chain of franchise dispensaries that deal with their product exclusively.

As far as the technology of their devices goes, they are fairly compatible with other brands. However, they tend to charge more, as they need to recoup the money for their advertising.

I've had several patients that have had bad experiences with Miracle Ear products and Dispensers. But then again, if they were happy, they wouldn't be coming to see us. Still, it is an important investment she is making, and she needs to not only consider the cost and convenience, but also the service and professional support she will receive.

I strongly recommend that she consult a few Audiologists rather than Hearing Aid Dispensers in the area, to shop around for the product and service. Especially if she has never worn hearing aids before, it is important that she fully understand the options available to her; and to have someone that will explain to her what to expect, how to adapt to hearing all the sounds she's been missing, and how to get the most from her investment. For example, if both of her ears hear about equally, she would do much better if she had amplification for both ears.

No matter where she purchases, she should get a trial period that is AT LEAST 30 days long, during which she has the option to return the aid(s) with no questions asked (most places do have some portion of the cost that is not refunded). Make sure she goes in for at least one follow-up visit during that trial period and that she gets all her questions answered promptly and professionally.

If at all possible, have someone accompany her to these visits -- it's a lot of information, and the some of my patients can seem intimidated by the process. Unfortunately, some seniors can be easily influenced or will simply just want to keep it simple and just stay with the first person they talk to. She's spending a lot of money and these devices need to help her for the next five years or so -- it's better not to make a hasty decision.

If you have any additional questions, feel free to click on my name/avatar and the on Contact hearkat and send me a note.

You should keep the headphones down below 85 decibels as anything in this range or above can cause gradual hearing loss you can tel if the headphones are too loud if a friend is standing next to you and can hear the music also.

You didn't provide the details of your hearing loss or your age, so my best guess is you're "technically" deaf because 'hard of hearing' is generally associated with 'mild' and 'moderate' groups.

Mild (25-40 dB) - (mildly) hard of hearing
Moderate (40-70 dB) - hard of hearing or deaf (it's common for one to say they're "deaf in one ear," though)
Severe (70-90 dB) - deafened or deaf
Profound (91 dB or more) - deaf

A detailed summary for each category can be found here:

(It's important to note that a belief that deaf people (e.g. sign language users) couldn't hear at all is a common misconception. In fact, total deafness is a rarity.)

I've been listening to loud music since I was 8. pretty much every single day in fact. i always loved music & its an addiction to me. & I listen to it loud. I'm 18 now & I do get headaches now but,I haven't noticed hearing loss yet. I'm trying to tone it down now before I do any serious damage

When it's due to accident it's not possible to restore (husband had same thing) so all you can do is amplify to whatever degree possible. Your hearing will still be distorted because of the damage. You might be expecting too much of a restoration to your hearing. If you have hearing aids then you have already been tested.

Its not as loud on the field as it is in the stadiums. I suppose they could, but they don't all necessarily. Some do use earplugs similar to musicians as stated above...but most don't.
