Noise exposure over 90 dBA for over 8 hours is enough to begin to damage your outer hair cells in your cochlea. Over time that damage will become cumulative and permanent and result in loss from the 2-6 kHz range (higher pitched sounds). Impact/impulse noise can cause immediate hearing loss if it is sufficiently loud.

If people have to shout over the noise to be heard, its probably too loud to spend extended lengths of time in that environment without suffering a temporary hearing loss. If you're in doubt you're better off wearing ear plugs.

What a load of crap. Very un-imformative information about hearing aids. The people that sell hearing aids for a living are better versed to properly fit a hearing aid over a doctor. Doctors spend more time treating ear illnesses then learning the process to fit a hearing aid properly. Doctors are a business also. they see hundreds of people a week treating people because it takes up to six+ months to get paid from the insurance. Its not like that automatically makes them more qualified.

Since this video aired, Otologics will now be offering the implantable hearing aid free to people since it is still in it's clinical trials. For more information or to volunteer for the trial, call 1-866-394-7320.

If your hearing isn't too bad then you can be fit with hearing aids that are called "open fit". This leaves your ear canal as open as possible- this combined with the amplification have helped a lot of people who suffer from tinnitus.

A GOOD QUALITY hearing aid is not cheap. You should expect to pay anywhere from 1200-2800 PER AID, and it can be more depending on where you live. But, keep in mind these are an investment that should help you for AT LEAST 5 years. Some insurances will cover a small portion of your hearing aids, but most don't. There is something called "Care Credit" that some audiologists use to help their patients finance their hearing aids...its similar to if you were to buy a home appliance and they offer you no interest for however many months.

But no matter what, you need to get a thorough evaluation by an audiologist and get their best recommendation. Don't go to Beltone, Walmart, Amplifone, Nu Ear, Miracle Ear, or any large chain...their first concern is making commission and hoping that you don't return your aids within the trial period. Go to a licensed audiologist who cares about your hearing over the sale.

As a clarinet player myself, to play it successfully one has to hear the tone well. Clarinets are very finicky and the slightest change can throw off your tone and you need to be able to hear it. Sometimes - depending on how much brass there is in the band - it can drown out clarinets - so she'll have trouble hearing herself play, I bet.

IMPOSSIBLE!

once the hair cells are damaged they are damaged. there is no magical-medicinal cure for a sensory/ neural hearing loss.

buck up and get your self some hearing aids. if you have a high frequency loss. make sure they have directional microphones and at the very least 8 channels so the audiologist has greater programming ease.

I'd try a steamy hot shower and a good dose of some type sinus medication. My kid went to the doctor yesterday with very similar symptoms and that's what they diagnosed for her. The pollen count is so high (here anyway) that people not normally bothered are having major problems with it. Good luck.

* the drainage backs up and fills your sinus cavities badly when you sleep which can cause major ear pain.

To do that Mary and Cecily, we need to have more adults that believe we can handle the information to make those informed choices. I know many adults who believe we are too immature for such information, which honestly just makes me crack up.

You need distance vision of 20/20 and near vision that's at least 20/40. You can wear glasses to get this vision. You also cannot suffer from severe color blindness (mild color blindness is okay as long as you can pass the color vision tests accepted by the FAA).

If you can hear someone talking softly behind you, that's good enough to qualify in terms of hearing. Cockpits tend to be very noisy so unless you're nearly deaf you can hear well enough (some pilots tend to lose their hearing after years of flying, in fact).

For the second curiosity, I do think it would be more difficult to pinpoint such things. The brain's organic make-up between individual is so different (eg drug-addiction susceptibility differences). Perhaps you could prove me wrong with your findings after doing research in such areas.

Colon cleaning is the latest technique to reduce weight. Researchers have illustrated the fact that not all extra weight is thanks to excess fat, a great deal of weight simply stays there in the pipes, and all you need to do is flush it out. has a risk free trial on right now, give it a try, you can reduce as much as twenty lbs!
