I have been totally deaf in my left ear since I was a kid. Its the inner ear so a hearing aid would not even do any good.

Absolutely the best, if you are evaluated as an appropriate subject, is the cochlear implant. You need to read up on it, and it is a surgical implant, but it is what they use nowadays for even little children with profound hearing loss.

if your in the car for example the person sitting next to you can talk in the microphone and you can hear them better. Because their mouth is closer to the microphone than your ear there is less noise from car etc. making it easier to hear them.

I know what you mean, what I have done is my hearing aid has an FM reciever and I can use my hearing aids and what ever my professors say I hear right in my hearing aids with out the added background noise. It is awesome and has helped me so much since I have been in college.

That sounds very encouraging and exciting. Then I don’t have to wear stupid hearing aids that fall apart and to use up expensive batteries. Also I can just feel better about hearing the beauty of sounds once again. Though I am not deaf, I think hearing impaired(like me) should be included in the study for the quest for the cure. I am saving this video to show to my dad. I greatly applaud this doctor ‘s undying effort to find a cure for deafness and hearing impairment .

How do you scratch it? If you stick your finger in deep and wiggle it, it could be two things – either you are creating a vaccum that then sucks on the ear drum, causing it to go convex when you pull your finger out. The taut condition of the eardrum, until it pops back on it's own, causes hearing distortion, because it can not vibrate. The other option is you have alot of ear wax and you are compacting it when you put your finger in to scratch but it opens back up on its own afterwards.
