Put the headphones on your head so they rest on the bone right behind your ears. The vibrations will travel through the bone and you will still be able to hear the music.

Afraid not. The Army has limits on vision and hearing disabilities.
If you need a hearing aid to hear normal speech you probably wouldn't qualify for any Armed Service.

IMPOSSIBLE!

once the hair cells are damaged they are damaged. there is no magical-medicinal cure for a sensory/ neural hearing loss.

buck up and get your self some hearing aids. if you have a high frequency loss. make sure they have directional microphones and at the very least 8 channels so the audiologist has greater programming ease.

You should keep the headphones down below 85 decibels as anything in this range or above can cause gradual hearing loss you can tel if the headphones are too loud if a friend is standing next to you and can hear the music also.

I think that many hearing people feel awkward when trying to speak with someone who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing. It's a thick communication barrier, and many people aren't sure how to deal with it.

If that's not the case, it's sometimes true that hearing people do honestly feel sorry for Deaf people or think that they are inferior; I hate saying that, but it's true that many people look down upon the Deaf/HOH community because they aren't 'normal'.

I hope that answers your question :)

Do you suddenly get up in the middle of the night hearing strange noises? Yes it can definitely be frightening, more so when you cannot find the source. Now consider for a moment that these sounds are coming from within you. Most people would be stunned to know that. Many of us do not even know that our internal organs can make sounds. Let us try to see whether you actually heard these noises or not, and if you did, where did they come from. Now before anything, let us get this straight - yes, you actually heard those noises. No, they are not a result of a creative mind that imagined things in slumber. But having said that, it is also true that there is indeed no source of the sounds you heard. So what is it? Confused? This is a classic ... "cause tinnitus", "chronic tinnitus", "cure tinnitus", "does tinnitus miracle work", "hearing loss", "objective tinnitus", "pulsatile tinnitus", "ringing in

Noise exposure over 90 dBA for over 8 hours is enough to begin to damage your outer hair cells in your cochlea. Over time that damage will become cumulative and permanent and result in loss from the 2-6 kHz range (higher pitched sounds). Impact/impulse noise can cause immediate hearing loss if it is sufficiently loud.

If people have to shout over the noise to be heard, its probably too loud to spend extended lengths of time in that environment without suffering a temporary hearing loss. If you're in doubt you're better off wearing ear plugs.

Instead of constantly struggling to hear what people are saying in conversations, or having to turn up your music too loud, find out about smart hearing aids on the market. Unlike in the past when these aids were large, and people were embarrassed to wear them, new digital technology has resulted in tiny models that can be worn discreetly.

A new "smart materials" process -- Multiple Memory Material Technology -- promises to revolutionize the manufacture of diverse products such as medical devices, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), printers, hard drives, automotive components, valves and actuators. The breakthrough technology will provide engineers with much more freedom and creativity by enabling far greater functionality to be incorporated into medical devices such as stents, braces and hearing aids than is currently possible.

You are right. The loss in these videos is more in the higher frequencies. The moderate and severe examples do show a significant loss in the lower frequencies too. My understanding is that the types of hearing loss shown here are the most common types. Thanks for noting that.

Campaigners seek ban on tuneless horns, which they say put football fans at risk of tinnitus and long-term hearing loss To some, they were the definitive sound of the World Cup, a celebration of African culture and must-have momento of this summer's football festival; to others, they were just an irritating din. But now campaigners for hard-of-hearing people are urging football clubs in Britain to keep their stadiums free of the drone of the dreaded vuvuzelas when the new season kicks off next month. They are warning that the blaring, horn-like sound from the instruments is so loud that fans of the nation's favourite sport could suffer permanent hearing loss if fellow spectators at a match try to recreate the atmosphere from South Africa. Vivienne Michael, chief executive of the charity Deafness Research UK, warned: "These tuneless trumpets can emit sounds in excess of 130 decibels, equivalent to a jumbo jet taking off, and as the national charity concerned with deafness research and...

Be upfront with your problem and have people face you when they talk
You will cope and adapt
Get in touch with office of vocational rehab for help in getting hearing evaluated and aids...they also help for the work environment adaptation so you can continue working
Let your supervisor know
Take classes on sign language (it is a beautiful language to learn) and help young parents whose children are having speech problems practice signing. You will gain friends
There are many people with this problem and dont do anything to help themselves

Andy, I actually tried to get Gowalla to create a virtual totebag as an "item" for Annual, but they declined to work with us on all of the stuff we wanted to do with them. I'm trying to set things up manually myself now. I hope to post a virtual totebag soon. :)
