The man in question was seen desperately trying to climb down from the building during the raid.
IMPOSSIBLE!

once the hair cells are damaged they are damaged. there is no magical-medicinal cure for a sensory/ neural hearing loss.

buck up and get your self some hearing aids. if you have a high frequency loss. make sure they have directional microphones and at the very least 8 channels so the audiologist has greater programming ease.

There are small hairlike structures inside your ear that vibrate in response to sound waves, loud noise damages these structures as they are very sensitive.

if your in the car for example the person sitting next to you can talk in the microphone and you can hear them better. Because their mouth is closer to the microphone than your ear there is less noise from car etc. making it easier to hear them.

You can basically do anything that does not require a phone. I'm hearing impaired also, and as long as I steer clear of jobs requiring long phone hours (i.e. 911 dispatcher like your past position, customer service rep, telemarketer) I've never had a problem. I've worked in a variety of different positions, industries, and settings, and the key is just making sure that you are up front with your supervisor and anyone else you feel needs to know.

Every single supervisor I've had has offered to work with me to ensure I have the tools to perform my job to the best of my abilities, hearing impairment or not.To avoid any discrimination on the basis of disability, employers are bound by law to provide you with reasoanble accommodation. For instance, my supervisor reviews conference calls with me after the fact (in a very respectful way) to ensure nothing was missed. Also, I primarily use email to communicate and am exempt from all those "pick up the phone and talk to someone instead of impersonally emailing them" lectures. :-)

Basically, you can do anything. Follow your passions and be up front about your hearing impairment - that's the best advice I have.

You cant afford a doc eh? I recommend some home remedies my great Uncle Al did.

Take 1 tbl spoon of cinnamon and 8 oz of milk. Let it sit outside in the sun for 24 hours (1day). Then put the moisture on your cotton swab and place in your ear for 2 days straight, 3 times a day. The cinnamon creates a scratchy substance when its churned in the sun by the milk. This substance will release particles like vics vapor rub would for your nose.

Another home remedy would be to apply ben gay around your ear, but not totally in your ear. Leave and let it sit for 30mins, then place some inside your ear. It has the same effect as above but works faster.

Hi Melanie

Here is an herbal formula that helped my friend restore his hearing and the %'s were very similar.

Hearing Loss Kit

 Formulae
Blue Cohosh, Black Cohosh, Blue Vervain, Skullcap, Lobelia

Therapeutic Action:
Dr. Christopher's Oil and Tincture Combination. When this procedure is used as explained here, it can be an aid in assisting in improvement of poor equilibrium, failure of hearing, etc.

This program has restored the hearing of many adults and children.

Definition, Symptoms, Causes:
When a child cannot hear well, it may be from several causes, i.e., injury and concussion, nerve-loss, ears plugged with wax and/or debris.

Dosage:
With an eye dropper insert into each ear at night, four to six drops of oil of garlic and four to six drops of the tincture, plugging ears overnight with cotton, six days a week, four to six months, or as needed.
