I found a few links that may help you. Personally, we sat our grandfather down and explained that if he didn't go in for testing grandma was going to stop listening to HIM until he did….but grandpa was really a stubborn ornery sort of person and I wouldn't recommend that approach for many people. The links are probably more appropriate for your situation.

It may help if you could get him to discuss why he doesn't want a hearing aid. They make almost invisible ones cheaper now if he's vain about it. Perhaps he doesn't want to spend the money or doesn't have insurance that would cover it. In the end there may be nothing that will convince him to get one, but good luck with your efforts hun.

A hearing AID is an AID TO HEARING, it is not changing anything, it merely AIDS and attempts to improve hearing. Most are not implanted, and can be changed. A sex change is a surgical proceedure that actually physically and mentally changes a person. Different as night and day. The argument you present is like comparing Apples and Oranges, and, frankly, is not valid.

I'm here in California, and it may be different in Florida, but I'm almost certain that there are programs everywhere for these situations. The catch is — these patients must show that they are in desperate need of this help, in terms of both hearing loss and financial stability.

Another option is financing. This is especially helpful for patients who are still working and do not have the full amount for hearing aids at the time that they need them. Your dad's Hearing Healthcare Provider may have this available. Some companies offer a financing option that is LIKE a credit card, but can only be used for medical purposes. Some plans offer 0% interest, and can lower monthly payments significantly.

The best place to ask about this is the office your dad is visiting.

Osteoarthritis is loss of bone density. I can't imagine how that could lead to deafness. It's not like you're going to lose significant bone mass from those three tiny bones in your inner ear. I'd say that the only connection is that both are more likely to happen to people as they age, but there is no cause-and-effect relationship between them.

All three of these hearing aids contain microprocessors that perform digital filtering to customize the amplification to the wearer’s hearing profile. They further dynamically adjust to reduce ambient noises. There is a tiny computer port inside the battery door that allows them to be reprogrammed as required. The hearing aid on the upper right fits behind the ear and allows some of the ambient sound around the output hole. The hearing aid on the upper left fits completely inside the ear and can not be seen unless some one looks directly into the ear. The hearing aid on the lower left fits even further into the ear and can’t be seen at all.

Psychological means that they don't believe that you can't hear, as if it is all in your head (no pun intended)……you need to find a doctor with some sense who will check everything. It could be nerve damage, could be severe sinus blockage (like me), or could be an underlying issue elsewhere in your body. Believe it or not, some forms of systemic disease can cause you to lose your hearing. Keep looking for a solution and don't give up.
