Viewing speech from the perspective of consonant and vowel is not very useful as the majority of the languages in the world are not based on this. The more accurate modeling of human voice is LPC (Linear Predictive Coding). From wikipedia
"LPC starts with the assumption that a speech signal is produced by a buzzer at the end of a tube (voiced sounds), with occasional added hissing and popping sounds (sibilants and plosive sounds). Although apparently crude, this model is actually a close approximation to the reality of speech production. The glottis (the space between the vocal folds) produces the buzz, which is characterized by its intensity (loudness) and frequency (pitch). The vocal tract (the throat and mouth) forms the tube, which is characterized by its resonances, which give rise to formants, or enhanced frequency bands in the sound produced. Hisses and pops are generated by the action of the tongue, lips and throat during sibilants and plosives."
The latest technology in hearing aids is digital processing. Improving speech intelligibility is just one domain. This is called "Digital Speech Enhancement (DSE). These systems act to increase the relative intensity of some segments of speech. Current DSE processing identifies and enhances speech based either on temporal, or more recently, spectral content. DSE in hearing aids is still relatively new, and its effectiveness is largely unknown".
Other digital technology to improve hearing aids are:
1. enhanced gain control, either automatic or intelligent
2. feedback reduction
3. noise reduction
4. synthetic directional microphone
5. custom shaping of emphasis filters

No. Compression does just the opposite. It holds the loud passages down preventing overloading/distortion of the recording. (It does increase the volume of the quieter passages but holds the overall volume down so the channel(s) is(are) not overloaded. Basically, it decreases the ability to express music through dynamics – makes louder passages quieter and quieter ones louder. It's a real music killer!

I have no idea what you are asking, but it seems like you want to know why people who can hear sometimes act strangely around deaf people. To that, I say it is quite like when an English speaker attempts to speak to a non-English speaker who looks like they should be able to speak English, before realizing they cannot. It's instant embarassment, and quite confusing. You don't know exactly what to say at that point but, "sorry."

A tumor is only one of many possible causes. Did the audiologist say if it was conductive or sensorineural? I would consider seeing and ear, nose, and throat specialist to find out the cause- but don't freak out just yet, there are lots of other possibilities other than a tumor. everything from damage to the eardrum to drug use to an infection, and that's just scratching the surface. good luck

There's no point in going to the doctor. There is nothing they can do for your hearing damage. Only thing you can do right now is wear ear plugs to let the cells rest and regenerate. How long it takes to recover depends on the extent of damage. Could be a week or two, or could be never.

It would be best to see a hearing professional and have your hearing tested. All it takes is one extremely loud event to cause permanent hearing damage. If you have hearing damage, I would stop going to loud concerts, movies, lawn mowers and the like without hearing protection.

The Vigo looks really nice, that could be a good choice too, although I’ve never tried one. How much is a Vigo? I love my dot2 but I had to get some parts fixed up like the battery door and a door on top of the hearing aid but it’s all fixed!!!
I just hope it wont wear out soon….considering the times that I’ve accidentally dropped it in water, pushed in the lake with it, went under the jacuzzi, the shower and I’ve been through MANY MANY MANY batteries.

get yourself a pair of STRONG earplugs; they not only block the sound, but you can hear yourself to make sure you are in tune. I do this in Jazz Band, with 20-26 people in it. It helps A LOT!

This is a good example of a sloping hearing loss (most commonly caused by aging) but does not simulate all noise induced hearing loss -I have a cookie bite notch in my audiogram at 3k and it is a completely different sound -its hard to explain -high notes are clear as a bell but the midrange is dropping out so music sounds tinny and people sound like they are speaking with a lisp all the time- its not a problem for communication yet but still very very frustrating

This will depend on your life style. Perfect hearing is -10 to 10, Normal hearing is 0 to -10 and Average is -10 to -20 dBs. Some people that are involved in Music will want a hearing aid if they are at -20 because they will be needing to hear some frequiencies more clearly.
GENERALY speaking, if you are at -30 and below in frequencies 250, 500, 750, 1000, 1200, 2000 —- You will want a digital hearing aid.

u are a true poineer!!! this is something thats very personal and i give u SOOOO much credit for putting this on youtube!! i was born deaf and at age 2 1/2 i got my fist cochlear implant and then i got my second when i waz 9. its always been very hard to talk to people when they ask “whats that thing behind ur ear?” but i have learned to become a stronger and i have learned to stand up for myself and others. and i think that all of us who are hearing impaired should stand up together.
