This July, House Ear Institute (HEI) celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the first pediatric cochlear implant. HEI received FDA approval for a clinical trial in July 1980 to implant three patients under the age of 18 with the single-channel cochlear implant. The single-channel device had been developed at HEI by William House, M.D., in the 1960s and successfully implanted in adults. The success of HEI’s clinical trial led to implantation of the same single-channel device in the first preschool-aged child the following year. Soon after, other centers in the U.S…

The first shipment will supposedly only contain the 7-inch model and is set to arrive on January 10. It’s unclear if the $35 price has stuck or whether India’s been successful in plans to eventually drive the price down to $10 with the help of large orders and government subsidies. HCL Technologies plans to initially produce 100,000 units. Among the key features of this India-based tablet include 2GB of RAM, web-conferencing, PDF reader unzip, WiFi, camera and USB connectivity.”

Post : Is Tesla Stock Headed Down Post Lock-Up? URL : Posted : December 27, 2010 at 12:00 am Author : Katie Fehrenbacher Tags : Tesla, TSLA Categories : Automotive Electric car maker Tesla Motors (s TSLA) is about to hit a public company milestone. The company’s lock-up period — the 180 days after the IPO that underwriters agree to not sell the stock to prevent a company’s stock from gushing too quickly onto the market — is reportedly up on Monday , and some analysts think that means the stock is headed for a major slide. Already on December 23rd Tesla’s stock fell almost 7 percent on the news that Capstone Investments issued a sell rating and a $22 price target , and the stock closed around $30 per share. Capstone thinks the stock has been overvalued, and that the company will face increased competition from big automakers. Tesla priced its IPO at $17 per share back in June , its shares started trading at $19 on the morning of its debut, and its stock traded up 40.5 percent on its first day. Tesla’s stock traded around $20 for months, and soared up into the $30′s per share range last month. I wouldn’t be surprised if its shares started to trend down on Monday. Tesla is a pioneer and its brand is very cool now, but it won’t be making a profit or substantial revenues until closer to 2013, and will have to turn to a variety of ways to keep its stock up . While the company announced several high profiles deals with automakers, its IPO was one of the most successful in the greentech sector, and it bought the NUMMI plant for cheap, the company still has only sold around 1,400 of its electric sports car the Roadsters, and won’t be selling its Model S sedan until late 2012/2013 (if it meets its target date). It will also have a gap between when it stops producing the Roadster and when it starts selling the Model S. Here’s who made a pretty penny post lock-up . That is the USCG designated "Explosion Zone" for Hazardous Materials in the SF Bay Area. The USCG has set aside that area as a safe anchorage for ships with hazardous materials to wait for "Off Loading". They cannot anchor outside due to the fact that the shipping lanes for the West Coast are close by and the Feds do not allow these ships to anchor in the protected Marine Sanctuaries nearby. This area is away from the North Bay which has all for the refineries and fast moving waters coming out of the Delta region. The placement of these ships keeps them in close proximity of the "Skimmers" located in the former Military Sealift Command Center in the Port of Oakland. The ships are closely monitored by the USCG Center on Treasure Island to prevent attacks from that tower. Homeland Security is a high priority in the SF Bay.

"Tower foundations are prepared by digging down to a sufficiently firm rock formation. Some bridges are designed so that their towers are built on dry land, which makes construction easier. If a tower will stand in water, its construction begins with lowering a caisson (a steel and concrete cylinder that acts as a circular damn) to the ground beneath the water; removing the water from the caisson's interior allows workers to excavate a foundation without actually working in water. When the excavation is complete, a concrete tower foundation is formed and poured."

"Anchorages are the structures to which the ends of the bridge's cables are secured. They are massive concrete blocks securely attached to strong rock formations. During construction of the anchorages, strong eye bars (steel bars with a circular hole at one end) are embedded in the concrete. Mounted in front of the anchorage is a spray saddle, which will support the cable at the point where its individual wire bundles fan out—each wire bundle will be secured to one of the anchorage's eye bars."

“Although thieves recently pilfered computers from a Winnetka school whose curriculum relies heavily on technology, students coming back to class today will hardly miss a byte thanks to some help from a nonprofit foundation. The San Diego-based Technology Training Foundation of America donated 14 refurbished desktop and seven laptop computers to help make up for the theft of $75,000 worth of equipment from Sunny Brae Elementary School in August. The still-unidentified thieves had stolen 13 wide-screen Apple computers and six laptops, as well as six document readers and seven projectors, which the school is still looking to replace. “School’s just getting ready to start and it’s the kids that are the losers if they don’t have the equipment to get started on,” said foundation president Jeanette Roache. “A lot of the curriculum is technology-based, and we wanted to make sure they had what they needed.” The group refurbished Dell computers that had been previously used and donated by Southern California Edison and shipped them to Sunny Brae last week along with warranties on the units. Sunny Brae Principal Susan Lasken, who had despaired when she showed up to school to find doors jimmied and the computers gone, said the donation was heartening. “It was so nice. From this horrible, negative event we had people calling us and dropping stuff off,” Lasken said. “How generous can people be? It kind of reaffirmed your faith in Advertisement humanity, because people do come forward.” A recent donation of $1,600 is expected to help make up for the losses of the document readers and projectors, which can run up to about $500 each. The school, which has a large number of English learners, credits its success to technology. Teachers believe the machines helped the school exceed 800 on the state’s Academic Performance Index this year, far above the district average of 728. Teachers use the computers to display pictures or videos to explain vocabulary, and students use them for research projects or to take tests after finishing books. “It’s a technology that really helped us get over that hump, because of the visuals, the hands-on, the self-paced learning,” Lasken said. Staffers are still working to install math and reading comprehension programs, and expect to get the computers fully running by the end of this week. “It’s been quite a challenging couple of weeks,” Lasken said. “We’re still short of what we need, but it went a long way to getting us what we need and couldn’t possibly have replaced. I think the worst is over.” The school is also looking for volunteers to help install the machines. To help Sunny Brae Elementary, call Lasken at 818-341-0931. Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call school police at 213-742-8219. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.”

They're asking you this question to figure out if you're planning to attend full-time. It's an important question for financial aid, sometimes housing etc. You're probably going full-time so say "6.1 or more."

"Units" usually doesn't mean classes. A better way to think of a unit is "1 hour per week." A typical college class is 3 or 4 units and meets for 3 or 4 hours per week.

At a semester-calendar school you'd usually take 4 classes each semester roughly 4 units each, so that's 4 x 4 x 2 semesters = 32 units for the year. At a quarter-calendar school you'd usually take 5 classes each quarter, at 3 units each, so that's 5 x 3 x 3 quarters = 45 quarter units for the year. Those are considered roughly the same thing.

School year is usually 8 – 9 months, yes.

Unearned increments in land are not the only form of unearned or undeserved profit, but they are the principal form of unearned increment, and they are derived from processes which are not merely not beneficial, but positively detrimental to the general public. Land, which is a necessity of human existence, which is the original source of all wealth, which is strictly limited in extent, which is fixed in geographical position — land, I say, differs from all other forms of property, and the immemorial customs of nearly every modern state have placed the tenure, transfer, and obligations of land in a wholly different category from other classes of property. Nothing is more amusing than to watch the efforts of land monopolists to claim that other forms of property and increment are similar in all respects to land and the…
