Well, my favorite quote on the topic is “Marriage is punishment for shoplifting in some countries.” – Wayne Campbell :P But in seriousness, I think my friend has already decided to end his marriage (due to sexual interest in another woman) and is just looking for a way out of the guilt. So I’m trying to delicately question whether that is a decision he’ll be happy about after some time has passed. I don’t really feel like I know the couple well enough to judge or meddle, but it does seem sort of sad after a decade together, that it should end like this.

hearing loss from stereo equipment occurs in the inner ear, the little hairs in the cochlea get damaged and eventually cannot detect sounds . Once this kind of hearing loss occurs it is usually permanent, the loss is often not noticed til later in life as the nerves begin to die. sorry to be the bearer f bad news but there are no " ear exercises " that return the lost hearing.

If this is because you have a birth defect and not a joke then I am sorry that you have a problem. Not everyone is born with legs that work or eyes that see or ears that hear. This is a temporary life though and very short. It does not seem short when you are young but when you get older like myself it seems like just yesterday I was playing baseball with my friends and today I have arthritis and cannot run. Living with pain or physical problems is hard. But God can make it possible to accept anything in this life because we have hope in the next life of being whole like Christ Jesus is whole. Look for him he will find you.

If this is a joke and a way to slam the Church. Then you are acting very foolishly. Beating your chest at the only one who can help is foolish.

One thing they don't teach in church is logic.

    At least not yours.

*||^) you have to have spiritual eyes to see spiritual things.

You don't mention whether you desire to be an airline pilot with a first class medical, a corporate pilot with a second class medical, or a private pilot with a third class medical, but in all cases the answers may be found at faa.gov in FAR Part 67.

For eyes, the answer is basically correctable to 20/20.
For hearing the answer is able to carry on a normal conversation without being shouted at.

    Class I vision requirements

    Sec. 67.103

    Eye.

Eye standards for a first-class airman medical certificate are:
    (a) Distant visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye separately, with or without corrective lenses. If corrective lenses (spectacles or contact lenses) are necessary for 20/20 vision, the person may be eligible only on the condition that corrective lenses are worn while exercising the privileges of an airman certificate.

    (b) Near vision of 20/40 or better, Snellen equivalent, at 16 inches in each eye separately, with or without corrective lenses. If age 50 or older, near vision of 20/40 or better, Snellen equivalent, at both 16 inches and 32 inches in each eye separately, with or without corrective lenses.

    (c) Ability to perceive those colors necessary for the safe performance of airman duties.

    (d) Normal fields of vision.

    (e) No acute or chronic pathological condition of either eye or adnexa that interferes with the proper function of an eye, that may reasonably be expected to progress to that degree, or that may reasonably be expected to be aggravated by flying.

    (f) Bifoveal fixation and vergence-phoria relationship sufficient to prevent a break in fusion under conditions that may reasonably be expected to occur in performing airman duties. Tests for the factors named in this paragraph are not required except for persons found to have more than 1 prism diopter of hyperphoria, 6 prism diopters of esophoria, or 6 prism diopters of exophoria. If any of these values are exceeded, the Federal Air Surgeon may require the person to be examined by a qualified eye specialist to determine if there is bifoveal fixation and an adequate vergence-phoria relationship. However, if otherwise eligible, the person is issued a medical certificate pending the results of the examination.

    Class I hearing requirments:

    Sec. 67.105

    Ear, nose, throat, and equilibrium.

Ear, nose, throat, and equilibrium standards for a first-class airman medical certificate are:
    (a) The person shall demonstrate acceptable hearing by at least one of the following tests:

    (1) Demonstrate an ability to hear an average conversational voice in a quiet room, using both ears, at a distance of 6 feet from the examiner, with the back turned to the examiner.

    (2) Demonstrate an acceptable understanding of speech as determined by audiometric speech discrimination testing to a score of at least 70 percent obtained in one ear or in a sound field environment.

    (3) Provide acceptable results of pure tone audiometric testing of unaided hearing acuity according to the following table of worst acceptable thresholds, using the calibration standards of the American National Standards Institute, 1969 (11 West 42d Street, New York, NY 10036):

    Frequency (Hz) 500
    Hz 1000
    Hz 2000
    Hz 3000
    Hz

    Better ear (Db) 35 30 30 40
    Poorer ear (Db) 35 50 50 60

    (b) No disease or condition of the middle or internal ear, nose, oral cavity, pharynx, or larynx that—

    (1) Interferes with, or is aggravated by, flying or may reasonably be expected to do so; or

    (2) Interferes with, or may reasonably be expected to interfere with, clear and effective speech communication.

    (c) No disease or condition manifested by, or that may reasonably be expected to be manifested by, vertigo or a disturbance of equilibrium.

See faa.gov for more information, with regard to other classes.

I can't stress enough that many disqualifying conditions such as heart disease, kidney disease, vision problems, etc., may be overcome with a demonstrated waiver or other means. You won't know the real answer about whether your particular is a problem until you see an aviation medial examiner. If he/she refuses to issue a medical, then you will need to examine the waiver process. I personally know many airline pilots flying on waivers.

    Good luck

I first had an analog hearing aid some years ago and found that strange. The reason is that the higher frequency sounds are the first to disappear, when you wear the aid it amplifies these and it does sound strange. When I was upgraded to a digital the same thing occur ed. Tell her not to worry, it is just the brain noticing a distinct difference in the sounds it is receiving. What happens quite quickly is the brain becomes used to the sound it now hears and accepts that as normal. I probably got used to it in two or three weeks. It's well worth the adjustment period just to hear conversation clearly without constantly saying pardon. It's all part of the joy of getting old, in the morning first you feel around for the glasses then you can see the hearing aid, all I need now is a wooden leg and a parrot on my shoulder.

    Categorized in Health Issues,

It is not until you need one, in most instances, that you realize just how costly hearing aids are, particularly the most up-to-the-minute digital ones. An example, for those who do not realize, is that a hearing aid frequently costs more than a laptop computer. If you want a digital deaf aid, then you could purchase two or three laptop computers for one ear piece.

Nothing at this point. If the doc said you had "slight" hearing loss in one ear, don't sweat it. Now, if he said you have some condition that will result in progressive hearing loss, then you need to look into hearing aids or the possibility of ear surgery. Best thing to do now to protect yourself from further hearing loss is (a) don't listen to music too loud, and (b) wear hearing protection if you're in an environment where you'll be exposed to loud noises, like using power tools or going to concerts.

Here are the hearing standards as measured by a standard audiometer. Anything worse is disqualifying:
Pure tone at 500, 1000 and 2000 cycles per second: Not more than 30 decibels loss on the average with no individual level greater than 35 decibels loss at those levels.'
Pure tone at 3000 cycles per second: Not more than 45 decibels of hearing loss.
Pure tone at 4000 cycles per second: Not more than 55 decibels of hearing loss.

You can basically do anything that does not require a phone. I'm hearing impaired also, and as long as I steer clear of jobs requiring long phone hours (i.e. 911 dispatcher like your past position, customer service rep, telemarketer) I've never had a problem. I've worked in a variety of different positions, industries, and settings, and the key is just making sure that you are up front with your supervisor and anyone else you feel needs to know.

Every single supervisor I've had has offered to work with me to ensure I have the tools to perform my job to the best of my abilities, hearing impairment or not.To avoid any discrimination on the basis of disability, employers are bound by law to provide you with reasoanble accommodation. For instance, my supervisor reviews conference calls with me after the fact (in a very respectful way) to ensure nothing was missed. Also, I primarily use email to communicate and am exempt from all those "pick up the phone and talk to someone instead of impersonally emailing them" lectures. :-)

Basically, you can do anything. Follow your passions and be up front about your hearing impairment – that's the best advice I have.

Everyone”s needs are different so you must consult with an audiologist before you buy a hearing aid. You must not buy the hearing aid that you saw your friend use or the hearing aid that you think looks best. Only an audiologist will be able to assess the kind of hearing problems you have and decide which hearing aid would suit your needs best. There are different styles of hearing aids.
