FMs AND HEARING AIDS ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS
FM systems and assistive listening devices (ALDs) are not just used in theaters and churches anymore. It is your right under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to access needed modifications such as a taper recorder, preferential seating, a note taker or FM system.
PLEASE NOTE THAT BILATERAL HEARING AIDS IMPROVE LOCALIZATION AND AMPLIFIES SOUNDS… INCLUDING SOUNDS IN SPECIFIC FREQUENCIES BASED ON YOUR INDIVIDUAL AUDIOGRAM.
FM SYSTEMS JUST AMPLIFIES THE SPEAKERS VOICE WHICH REDUCES THE BACKGROUND NOISE.
There are several types of FM systems that can be used in the classroom. FM systems are composed of a FM transmitter and a receiver.
The FM transmitter or the microphone and its components are used by your professors. The idea is to increase the speech signal and to decrease the background or ambient noise that your hearing aids may pick up.
The FM receiver can be an ear level receiver such as hearing aid audio boots. A boot is a small sleeve that fits over the end of a BTE hearing aid. The boot inserts the audio signal into the hearing aids' Direct Audio Input (DAI) interface. Not all BTE hearing aids have an audio boot interface.
Other receivers include: headphones/ear buds (typically for children with CAPD or ADD), a desktop speaker or a sound field system located around the classroom (everyone benefits from this).
Depending on the type you buy, FMs can be fairly inexpensive to purchase. Here's just one of many links:

yes they can. Basically nerve damage means the hearing loss is permanent and medical treatment with medication or surgery will not improve the hearing. So your only option of hearing better is to get a hearing aid to amplify the sounds for you.

Officially, the armed services each have their own testing standards for hearing. The actual test is technical but basically involves listening to sounds of decreasing/increasing pitch, tone, and volume and your ability to follow said sounds to the end of the spectrum.
generally, it is not encouraged for people that have hearing disabilities to enlist in the military….mostly because the army will refuse to pay disability for something that you had pre-service. those that are in the military and then lose their hearing are often submitted for medical boards that encourage them to leave the service.
depending on your hearing "score," it may be determined that you do or do not qualify for certain jobs. some jobs that require less reliance upon sound have qualifiers that may allow you to enter.
However, the official answer to your question can only be answered by the service you wish to work for. Since the entire recruiting process (up until the time you actually swear into service…delayed entry programs are not binding) is FREE, you are allowed to submit to the battery of tests and then walk away should you either not be elligble for the job you want, or not at all.
good luck!

This will depend on your life style. Perfect hearing is -10 to 10, Normal hearing is 0 to -10 and Average is -10 to -20 dBs. Some people that are involved in Music will want a hearing aid if they are at -20 because they will be needing to hear some frequiencies more clearly.
GENERALY speaking, if you are at -30 and below in frequencies 250, 500, 750, 1000, 1200, 2000 —- You will want a digital hearing aid.
There is an American Guy in South America that I bought My Aids from. He works in Peru helping the Poor and the 3rd world people hear. You shouldn't have a problem passing the test.
Even if you were completely deaf in one ear, you could pass.
If you can hear the doctor speaking to you at 6 feet, with your back turned, using BOTH ears, you will pass.
This is the primary test for the FAA Class 1 Medical Certificate. (and 2&3 as well)
If you fail the test, you can elect to have an audiometric test done.
Here are the actual requirements:
"Demonstrate hearing of an average conversational voice in a quiet room, using both ears at 6 feet, with the back turned to the examiner OR pass one of the audiometric tests below :
Audiometric speech discrimination test: (Score at least 70% discrimination in one ear) or:
Pure tone audiometric test: Unaided, with thresholds no worse than:
500Hz 1,000Hz 2,000Hz 3,000Hz
Better Ear 35Db 30Db 30Db 40Db
Worst Ear 35Db 50Db 50Db 60Db"

if your in the car for example the person sitting next to you can talk in the microphone and you can hear them better. Because their mouth is closer to the microphone than your ear there is less noise from car etc. making it easier to hear them.

Hate to break it to you, but hearing is fundamental in nursing.
You need to be able to use a stethoscope with accuracy, and sometimes there is background noise which can make it difficult even for 100% hearing. You need to be able to hear when people call out for you as they don't always use a call bell. You need to hear unusual sounds or faint alarms that might be pointing to something much bigger.
I think you might be able to work in an area of nursing like research or administration, but I'm not sure you'd be able to make it through nursing school with a hearing loss.
The best thing to do is contact the nursing schools directly to see.

CNET reader John asks: I am a senior. My hearing abilities are deteriorating and I expect there are a lot of others with the same problem. Background music in a lot of programming drowns out the voice. Higher frequency and soft voices are more difficult to understand. I would like to know if there is any way to control the audio portion of a HD cable TV signal? Would a home theater sound system give you any control? I know I may require hearing aids eventually but was wondering about an interim solution. If control is not an option, would headphones work? Thanks for your help, John I can’t speak to the question of hearing aids, but as far as TV audio is concerned, it’s not entirely your ears. The problem is: all TV speakers are crap. Many people can’t hear dialogue from their TV speakers. Fortunately, there are several solutions. The problem There are multiple reasons why dialogue is so hard to hear on modern TVs. The first problem is the programming itself. Most TV shows have 5.1…

http://bit.ly/ A very beneficial, but challenging, thing that you should do, if you suffer from hearing loss, is locate a hearing aid to improve your ability to hear. Your decision must be based upon what you can afford, the style that you prefer, and the degree of your hearing loss. To help you out, let’s take a look at the major types of hearing aids that are available and which one would help you the most.
Completely in the canal, or CIC, is a brand of hearing aid. These devices can be helpful if you suffer from moderate to mild hearing loss. Due to the fact that this hearing aid is all the way in your ear canal, hardly anyone will notice that it is there. Unlike hearing aids that sit outside of the ear, this one will help prevent background noises such as the wind because of its placement. Unlike most hearing aids, this product does not have volume control.
Digital sound processing, or DSP, is a technology that can pick up sounds and reduce background noises at the same time. Yo

Hollie Cavanagh “just kind of knew.” That’s what she told reporters not long after hearing her name announced as the latest American Idol elimination. That was the feeling she had when she woke up. So, once the premonition became a reality, how did Hollie feel? Honestly, if you’d asked me a couple of weeks ago I would’ve been upset and in tears, but you can’t really complain when you are at the top four,” she said. “There were so many people previously in the competition that would have died to have been in this spot, so I am proud of myself at this point.” That’s certainly the right attitude to take, but try telling it to Joshua Ledet! He was more of a mess than Cavanagh after the results were unveiled. “I don’t know why the boy was crying, I’ll get to see him in like two days!” Hollie laughed. Cavanagh added that she truly has “no idea” who among the final three will win, but she does have nothing but nice things to say about the judges. “They said how proud they were of me and how…
