if your in the car for example the person sitting next to you can talk in the microphone and you can hear them better. Because their mouth is closer to the microphone than your ear there is less noise from car etc. making it easier to hear them.

There are several hearing aid manufacturers with excellent technology available. Which one is best for YOUR mother can not be determined here. She needs a current hearing evaluation (less than six months old), and a Hearing Aid Evaluation, preferably to include a demonstration, so she can listen through hearing aids to experience what the sound is like. Also, don't consider just the hearing aid(s), also make sure you find an Audiologist that you feel you can trust and who establishes a good rapport with your mother, for the long term of service.

Honestly, Miracle Ear is my least favorite brand of hearing aid.
I have worked as a hearing instrument specialist for 12 years now. I am qualified in the United Kingdom and also in America, where I live now. I have dispensed almost every major brand of aid out there. For six years I worked for independent companies that really didn't care what brand I dispensed.
In my experience Miracle Ear is one step up from the kind of junk you can order online or by mail order. They use cheap imported parts, and their technology is lagging far behind the better hearing aids.
For me I am a big fan of Starkey and Audibel. They make quality American hearing aids. Their latest nFusion technology is the most advanced out there. I also like Oticon and ReSound if you don't mind non-American companies. I think Siemens is a shade overrated and expensive.
Whatever you buy check that they have a good follow up program. Make sure you can listen to a real hearing system before you buy; any good hearing center will have BTE digital test aids you can listen to. Make sure you get a trial period of at least 30 days. Make sure you trust and believe in the hearing professional you are dealing with. Do not be afraid to ask for references. Good hearing professionals keep a list of patients who don't mind being contacted.
Avoid buying on price alone. A good hearing aid will cost over $2,500. Once you have settled on a price try and push for a longer factory warranty at no extra price. You may or may not get it, but it is worth having.

What type (in the ear, behind the ear, in the canal) of hearing aids are they? Does she wear ear molds? If so, are they different than the ones she used to wear? Sometimes ear molds can cause some sounds to be filtered out, and can cause the hearing aids to sound different.
When my students upgrade or change their technology, it usually takes 2-3 months before they get used to them. Good luck!

Kind of ironic that the host talks at the same time as Chrissy Pease. One of the most annoying things about hearing aids, is that they’re not very good at differentiating between different sources of sound. I paid Hidden Hearing the insurance money for a replacement hearing aid but they say they haven’t got the money In 2010, I bought a hearing aid, through Hidden Hearing, as a replacement for one I had lost. This February, Hidden Hearing said it had no trace of my having paid. I had gone into a branch and given a £700 cheque from the insurer, Halifax, and paid the balance of £299 by credit card. All three of these hearing aids contain microprocessors that perform digital filtering to customize the amplification to the wearer’s hearing profile. The hearing aid on the upper right fits behind the ear and allows some of the ambient sound around the output hole.
