It's typical to have family planning meetings or service plan reviews every followed by a court appearance every 6mo. If the parents are doing really well, and it looks like the child may be returned before the 6mo, they'll move it up. The other reason for more frequent court hearings is the parents lawyer. A really aggressive lawyer can petition the court more often in an attempt to get the child return more quickly.

With our first case we were in court every other week because Dad's lawyer was very thorough and insisted that Dad be able to prove his progress to the judge. In every other case, we've gone to court every 6mo.

Though wow, a hate against advanced search. Is it really so much better to have a single box into which to throw terms? A good advanced search offers ways to combine terms and tick off limits – is that bad? I wonder what the Swarthmore librarians have used as a default? Unless it’s awful, we offer advanced. Nobody’s stopping you from chucking a few random search terms and ignoring limits and extra search boxes. What do the rest of you think about advanced? Is it committing violence against the busy user?

Don't jump to the worst, please. I has a sneezing attack last weekend and it made my hearing different in one ear. I purchased some decongestant pills and took them two or three times and my problem resolved. Often, it can be crude in your ear, allergies or some other mundane cause. Try the least invasive treatments first, but get a test (an MRI?) so you aren't afraid of cancer. Don't waste energy on fear of what doesn't exist.

I know that just having my hearing different for a short time was very disturbing. I hope that you can find a treatment for your problem that cures it. Acupuncture, where needles go into the ear, can make some beneficial changes. I was really surprised by how acupuncture changed my ear canals for the better.

Check with your local Lions Club. They have a program for low cost hearing aids for those in need, and have been super nice to me. I have the same problems, but my audiologists said that my hearing loss could not be helped with hearing aids.

Are you repeatedly exposed to excessively loud noise? Someone once threw a cherry bomb at my feet and the explosion caused a ringing in my one ear that lasted for days! When I went to the audiologist's for a hearing test, he told me that I had lost some of my hearing–permanently–in that ear. All because some kids were fooling around. If the ear feels as if it's underwater, you may have a middle ear infection whereby the inner ear fills with fluid. This condition will probably go away on its own with the help of daily decongestants. Also, a doctor–and only a doctor–can puncture the eardrum to relieve the pressure. Anyway, I recommend that you see a ears, nose, and throat specialist right away because some hearing defects become worse with time and are treatable if caught early.

once the hair cells are damaged they are damaged. there is no magical-medicinal cure for a sensory/ neural hearing loss.

buck up and get your self some hearing aids. if you have a high frequency loss. make sure they have directional microphones and at the very least 8 channels so the audiologist has greater programming ease.

Hi DeafBoo, in response to your comment Kellie has a severe hearing loss and therefore requires a super powered aid. These are actually available from the NHS and are a lot smaller than the old analogues. There is a huge range of products available in different shapes and sizes but it does depend on the hearing loss with a super powered aid such as Kellie’s it requires larger battery power, hence its slightly larger size than the ones you wear.

You shouldn't have a problem passing the test.
Even if you were completely deaf in one ear, you could pass.

If you can hear the doctor speaking to you at 6 feet, with your back turned, using BOTH ears, you will pass.

This is the primary test for the FAA Class 1 Medical Certificate. (and 2&3 as well)

If you fail the test, you can elect to have an audiometric test done.

Here are the actual requirements:

"Demonstrate hearing of an average conversational voice in a quiet room, using both ears at 6 feet, with the back turned to the examiner OR pass one of the audiometric tests below :

Audiometric speech discrimination test: (Score at least 70% discrimination in one ear) or:

Pure tone audiometric test: Unaided, with thresholds no worse than:
500Hz 1,000Hz 2,000Hz 3,000Hz
Better Ear 35Db 30Db 30Db 40Db
Worst Ear 35Db 50Db 50Db 60Db"

vision loss is so common with ageing. people can be born with both vision and hearing misfunction but vision is usually picked up earlier in children.
Hearing loss through occupational damage is now well addressed and a company that did things that caused it would be in serious trouble. However age related hearing is just a fact of life.Hearing aids are usually a lot more obvious than contact lenses.

Good Hearing aids run 995 to 3K each… they are directional – they can be worn on your head and are nearly invisible… a Bose large to be worn 18/7… hearing aids run on a battery usually 10 days.. a hearing aid “thinks” tracking speech in real time… not a recording. Many aids talk to each other… supporting better stereo as pairs to improve your signal to noise ratio. Bose is great stuff… love my CD player and home stereo. Heard the guitar system. Its not the same job as a hearing aid.
