All I know is depending on my mood, sometimes when I feel like someone is hating, I openly say something back to them, even when out numbered. I love it. Usually it’s some idiot who has always gotten by with it and you can see the terror in their face when confronted. I think a little ego, a little attitude is completely fine. Stand tall.

When I vote a "Public" official into office, I expect them to do EVERYTHING above board. When their "personal" lives reflect the extreme flaws in their decision making process — whether it's the rubbing of toes between stalls at the local public restroom, or a "hummer" in the oval office, it tells me I cannot trust them to make the right decision at the right time.
I could care less what two (or more) consenting adults do in the privacy of their own home. Just don't try and tell me somethings are "normal." As for abortion, killing babies, even if they're not yet "viable tissue" is wrong. My tax dollars should not be used to the benefit of single individuals. It's an all or nothing proposition. Prior to Woodrow Wilson's opening that specific door, federal policy was, it must be to the benefit of all or none at all. That would include federal disaster relief AND welfare. It's called "personal responsibility." *hint* I survived Ivan AND Katrina.

Learning About Who You ARE
Those things matter in life the most. If at the end of the day, you feel that you haven't done anything important that mattered, think about all the things you are grateful for, think about how you lighten up someone's life, or read some really inspiring stuff. If today wasn't good enough, try again tomorrow. For tomorrow is another chance to be GREAT.

Title: Forks Over Knives Director: Lee Fulkerson Cast: Neal Barnard, Caldwell Esselstyn Jr., Matthew Lederman ‘Forks Over Knives’, from director Lee Fulkerson, fashions itself a hip, savvy treatise on vegetarianism, sort of ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ for the animal rights and beware-meat, health-conscious set. Instead, it’s a wearying polemic that tests the patience of even those who might be inclined to agree with it. Fulkerson takes as his two chief crusading subjects biochemist T. Colin Campbell and Cleveland-based surgeon Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn. Breaking out the science, they (and others) argue that the health benefits of eating vegetables are vast, and varied. Nipping a page from ‘Super Size Me”s Morgan Spurlock, Fulkerson…

Your question seems to be rhetorical, there is no way to argue against such a general accusation. It's like me posting "Why, when it comes to the sciences, are New Zelander's so clueless?" It's like they think Weird Science was a documentary. Someone please prove to me there are still educated Kiwi's in the world today.
You could roll out a list of scientists from New Zealand, and contributions your country has made to technology, but it probably wouldn't convince someone as clearly biased as the guy who posted the question.
And whatever your list, I'm sure I could at least equal it with past American military accomplishments and historical figures.
I doubt it would matter, I don't think I could convince you America is still a great nation. We are hands down the most powerful nation, not just on the planet, but in history. We are also the wealthiest nation in history. We have the oldest functional constitution of any nation in the world today. It is the basis for nearly every democratic constitution written in modern times. Clearly, we're doing some things right.
Maybe your idea of "greatness" varies though. That's personal to you and not detailed in your question so I can't answer it. If you'd like to try asking something more specific some day, be sure to log onto Yahoo (an American company.) You'll find it on the Internet (an American invention) using your computer (another American invention, since we're on the subject of American brain power.)
Ask whatever you want.

You don't say what country you are in, your age, or anything much else.
It doesn't matter what these are called. You have to compare:
What doctors you can see (any doctor? one in their network?)
What kind of doctor you can see (do you have to go to a primary care physician first, before you can see a specialist?)
Whether hospitalization is covered
What is the deductible (the amount out of pocket before they pay anything each year)
What is the co-pay (the amount you pay each time you use the insurance)
How likely are you to use the benefits?
Then make up a situation – you fall off a bike and break your arm, or you catch something serious. Figure out how you will benefit from each plan.

Kate Betts Everyday Icon: Michelle Obama and the Power of Style [Hardcover].In many ways the world has never seen a First Lady like Michelle Obama. From the precedent of her race to the singularity of her style, she has been the object of immense fascination. What she says, what she does, and not least, what she wears, is scrutinized around the world.
Writing at the crossroads of politics and fashion, Kate Betts explains why Michelle Obama’s style matters, and how she has helped liberate a generation of women from the false idea that style and substance are mutually exclusive. Following the transformation of Mrs. Obama from her early days on the campaign trail to her first state dinner at the White House, Betts, a longtime fashion journalist and former editor in chief of Harper’s Bazaar, reminds us that while style can be expressed in what you wear, it is inextricably bound up in who you are and what you believe in. In a smart, breezy voice backed by extensive interviews and historical research, Betts shows how Michelle Obama’s bold confidence and self-possession have made her into an icon and transformed the way women see themselves, their roles, and their own style.
With two hundred color photographs, original designer sketches, and historical images, Everyday Icon is not only a lavish tour of our First Lady’s style statements, but also a fascinating behind-the-scenes account of how she created her image and, more important, what that image says about American style today. Much has been written about Michelle Obama, but Kate Betts places her in a broader cultural and historical context; Everyday Icon is the definitive book on how a working mother of two became an unforgettable, global style icon.

gbrumfiel writes “Africa has some of the poorest soil of anywhere on the earth, and over farming is only making matters worse. As the population grows, governments and NGOs must decide whether to subsidize chemical fertilizers like those used in the west or promote more sustainable agricultural practices. In Malawi, the government has decided to subsidize fertilizers, with impressive results. Corn yields have tripled since the subsidies were introduced. More sustainable practices, such as fertilizer trees can’t deliver those kind of results in just a few years. The question is simple: does Africa follow the same, unsustainable road as the rest of the world? Or do they become a testing ground for potentially game-changing new techniques? OR is there a third path? Discuss.”

News | Energy & Sustainability The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency stunned scientists by canceling the four-year program less than three weeks before the deadline for grant proposals By Brett Israel and Environmental Health News | April 10, 2012 Image: Wikimedia Commons/Joe Sullivan In an announcement that stunned scientists, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has cancelled grant applications for what was supposed to be a $20-million, four-year green chemistry program. The mysterious cancellation, announced on Friday, came less than three weeks before the April 25 deadline for the grant proposals. The federal grants, which were supposed to fund two new academic centers, would have been a major new source of funding for green chemistry, a field that seeks to design environmentally friendly chemicals and processes that can replace toxic substances. The requests for proposals may be reissued, the EPA said Monday. But the program’s sudden halt and uncertain future — and lack of…
