In 2007, the average hearing aid in the US sold for just under $2000 each. You can expect to find a range anywhere from just under $1000 to over $3000 a piece. Why the cost? They're very sophisticated micro-computers, individualized to each specific person's needs, extremely small, and become obsolete as quickly as other consumer electronics yet are sold in relatively small numbers (think big screen TVs when they first came out), just to name a few reasons.
My best advice is to stay away from gimmicky ads in the paper and coupon deals…seek out a recommendation from an audiologist after a thorough hearing exam. Not all hearing aid dispensers are audiologists so make sure you are seeing a hearing health care professional (ie. an audiologist) not a salesperson. You can ask your primary care physician who they recommend, or ask your insurance company who is on your plan.
If cost is a concern, seek out the best hearing aid you can afford as they will last about 5 years on average. Sound quality is proportionate to cost, and matching you up with a hearing aid successfully means getting features that will work well for how you plan to use it. Ask about payment plans, use your health care spending account if you have one, and see if you qualify for any discounts through your health insurance (although they are rarely covered.)

in your case, both u and child father are carriers. And each of you must have received the defective gene from one of your parent, ( who would also be carriers ) and the other parent most likely be neither a carrier or a deaf person..

In my experience, after having used hearing aids for ten plus years, I have found name brand batteries like Rayovac or Duracell to be the longest lasting batteries. I tried out a few really cheap brands for a while like icelltec, but noticed i would get duds and batteries that only lasted two or three days. I get my batteries online now from Cheap Hearing Aid Batteries Canada but feel free to research around for the best prices online. It's nice because you just receive the batteries in the mail.

There are many local organizations that do assist persons with lower incomes in purchasing/obtaining hearing aids. I would recommend contacting your local Lions Club as they are the most prominent in most communities.
Also Healthy Hearing is an online consumer resource for persons with hearing loss and who wear hearing aids. They provide free consumer guides – one which is a comprehensive funding guide broken down by state and national organizations that assist persons in purchasing hearing aids. if your in the car for example the person sitting next to you can talk in the microphone and you can hear them better. Because their mouth is closer to the microphone than your ear there is less noise from car etc. making it easier to hear them.

Yes, it is possible.
I am deaf in my right ear… and I have "cros hearing aids." I have to wear a hearing aid in both ears. The one in my deaf ear simply receives any sound coming in on that side and transmits it into the hearing aid on my good ear. I still have no sense of direction and usually can't tell where sound is coming from… but I can actually hear someone whispering in my deaf ear (even though I'm really hearing it in my good ear). It's pretty cool… though it's not the greatest in noisy environments. One other disadvantage is it uses hearing aid molds in both ears, which does block some of the sound on my good ear from getting in… and I have to increase the volume on the microphone on my good ear's hearing aid to make sure I'm hearing everything on both sides.
Someone did try to convince me to try something called a bone-anchored hearing aid (BAHA implant). It was too invasive for my liking, but from what I understand it is something that is implanted behind your deaf ear and allows sound to be conducted through the bone rather than through the middle ear ("direct bone conduction"). I think it still transmits the sound to your good ear, but it supposedly feels like you're hearing in your deaf ear.

Usher syndrome is the most common form of combined congenital deaf-blindness in humans and affects 1 in 6,000 of the population. It is a recessive inherited disease that is both clinically and genetically heterogeneous. In the most severe cases, patients are born deaf and begin to suffer from a degeneration of the retina in puberty, ultimately resulting in complete blindness. These patients experience major problems in their day-to-day life. While hearing loss can be compensated for with hearing aids and cochlea implants, it has not proven possible to develop a treatment for the associated sight loss to date. Researchers at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU) in Germany have now developed a new treatment approach to this disease.

Hearing aids are a device which helps people to hear it isn't a disease, they look like this.
So know you can't get hearing aids from listening to the same sing your friends are messing around, there is an illness called aids which can come from using needles other people have used ect.
But the answer is this isn't true.

i've read that depending on the reason, implants and hearing aids can sometimes correct the problem to a certain degree.
in addition, service dogs, lip reading and using sign language can all be beneficial in dealing with deafness.
btw, i once dated a guy who was deaf – i definitely didn't think of him as slow – in fact, he was extremely intelligent, confident, and *sexy* (holy crap, was he ever!).
even though things didn't work out for us, we're still good friends to this day…
(oh, and just for the record, *he* was the one who 86'd the relationship, lol).
