Silence is not truly golden for those facing the prospect of it for the rest of their lives, 20 million Americans are afflicted with hearing difficulties. In a bid to help their hearing many will look into the use of a hearing aid. Hearing aids were long frowned upon but after one former President told his story of hearing loss, such devices have become much more popular. This president used an in the ear canal hearing aid while appearing on national TV. What truly stood out was the fact he admitted to having a problem.

It wouldn't matter at all. No one pays any attention to hearing aids
anymore than they notice glasses. It would make your life so much better if you could hear. This might sound silly, but would you not want to date a girl because she had a mole on her cheek, or a zit. We are all human trying to just fit in and everyone has something their self conscious of. Enjoy life and everything it has to offer. Nothing sounds more beautiful than listing to the birds signing. You wouldn't want to miss that. If you can't hear you won't get hear a girlfriend call your name. Be a nice guy, and girls will over look your hearing aid.

Your Grandma's hearing aids have not been set appropriately for her. I would recommend she return to the Beltone office she purchased them through and have them re-program the hearing aids. It is ideal to have a family member go to the appointment with her to ensure proper care is given and to talk with her while she is getting them tuned. This will help the family know at the time of the office visit that they have been set correctly and she is hearing properly.

Being fit with new hearing aids is a process and does take a few visits to ensure the hearing aids have been adjusted properly. There is also an adjustment period for the hearing aid wearer to get used to hearing with their new hearing aids.

Also testing called Real-ear verification is an absolute must in the hearing aid fitting process. This allows the audiologist or hearing aid specialist to visibly see how well the hearing aids are amplifying once fit on the patient. If the Beltone office she went to does not have real-ear verification, then that is very disappointing and I would recommend going to another office.

You really can't go wrong with either the Syncro or the Delta. Don't know anything about the Destiny. My daughter wears the Syncros (BTE, her loss is too severe for ITE) and they are the greatest thing since sliced bread. My father wears the Epoq which is bluetooth enabled and those are also great. Unlike what the previous poster wrote (all of which was accurate and great except for this part) the Delta is the most invisible BTE hearing aid imagineable, they use open-fit molds, and unless you are looking you really can't see them.

One thing that makes me shy away from ITE aids is that if they need to go in the shop for repairs, you can't get an ITE loaner from your audiolgoist because the casing is completely customized to your ear canal — if your BTE breaks, you just pop another unit on your custom ear mold (if you have one) or an open fit mold if you don't and you are good to go.

Yes, it is possible.

I am deaf in my right ear… and I have "cros hearing aids." I have to wear a hearing aid in both ears. The one in my deaf ear simply receives any sound coming in on that side and transmits it into the hearing aid on my good ear. I still have no sense of direction and usually can't tell where sound is coming from… but I can actually hear someone whispering in my deaf ear (even though I'm really hearing it in my good ear). It's pretty cool… though it's not the greatest in noisy environments. One other disadvantage is it uses hearing aid molds in both ears, which does block some of the sound on my good ear from getting in… and I have to increase the volume on the microphone on my good ear's hearing aid to make sure I'm hearing everything on both sides.

Someone did try to convince me to try something called a bone-anchored hearing aid (BAHA implant). It was too invasive for my liking, but from what I understand it is something that is implanted behind your deaf ear and allows sound to be conducted through the bone rather than through the middle ear ("direct bone conduction"). I think it still transmits the sound to your good ear, but it supposedly feels like you're hearing in your deaf ear.

As you know, its not often that we do hardware reviews, and usual we reserve those for the hardware we really like. This is one of those cases. Arctic Sound released their new Bluetooth P311 headset last week, and we got our hands on a unit. At first when we got the information about the price ($37.95), we were a little concerned. At under $40, how much quality can you really pack into a pair of headphones? Turns out, a lot. First the good. Syncing these to our iPhone was super easy. The headset was immediately picked up and over a week of real use (1-2 hours a day), the connection never needed to be reset. Other headsets have required reconnecting, but not these. The sound quality is decent at low and mid volume levels, the higher volume levels start to distort, but I’m never a fan of listening to music that loud in a headset since i don’t want to end up with hearing aids later in life.
