A tumor is only one of many possible causes. Did the audiologist say if it was conductive or sensorineural? I would consider seeing and ear, nose, and throat specialist to find out the cause- but don't freak out just yet, there are lots of other possibilities other than a tumor. everything from damage to the eardrum to drug use to an infection, and that's just scratching the surface. good luck

Singapore Med J. 2010 Feb; 51(2): e30-3 Tan JH, Yeh BI, Seet CS Deafness is a common and often permanent neurological sequel of Streptococcus (S.) suis meningitis. Suppurative labyrinthitis, rather than direct auditory nerve infection, has been found to be the site responsible for deafness. Neuroimaging is important to localise the site involved in hearing loss and to assess the feasibility of a cochlear implantation. S. suis is very sensitive to penicillin. Although a relapse of S. suis meningitis is uncommon, it can occur despite an adequate duration of appropriate antibiotic therapy. We describe a patient with S. suis meningitis, who developed permanent deafness from haemorrhagic labyrinthitis, as shown on magnetic resonance imaging. She suffered a relapse despite a seven-week course of intravenous antibiotics. A review on six cases of relapse reported in the literature shows that relapses occurred despite two to four weeks of antibiotics being administered to the patients. The…

By now, anyone remotely interested in hearing the Mel Gibson cuckoo bird taped phone conversations has gotten an earful of a crazy, abusive rant (if, indeed, we’re hearing what we think we’re hearing, sorry for the CYA moment). The details, I’ll spare you, but many people find it shocking (I saw a severed finger once, so not a lot shocks me). And, irrespective if the punching in the face part is true, this kind of thing could land a guy in jail in France. The Parliament has outlawed mental violence.

Yes, it can as long as the electronics inside were not damaged. It will just need to be re-shelled. Take it either to the place you bought it, or to your current hearing care provider.
Check your contract to see if your hearing aid is still under warranty and what your warranty covers before taking the hearing aid in.
If you have a hearing aid style that fits completely in your ear (not a behind the ear style), the hearing aid provider will need to remake the mold. The hearing aid will have to be sent off to the manufacturer for repair.
Getting the hearing aid re-shelled will cost you a quite a bit, but no where near the cost of a new aid.
Another thing you might want to keep in mind if your hearing aid is a little older, is that it might be time to have it replaced anyway. If its been over a year since you had an audiogram, request a new test to see if your hearing has changed. Some hearing aid providers will give you a free hearing test or "hearing screening" for free in hopes that you will buy a new set of hearing aids. Also keep in mind that the technology of hearing aids has come a long way in the past 3-5 years, you may benefit more from the new technology than your old aid.
Hope that you found this helpful! Best wishes.

I am an audiologist. I would encourage your grandmother to seek some opinions outside of Miracle Ear. Miracle Ear does have a good product. If it were my grandmother I would make sure that she will have top notch professionals dealing with her to assure that she has proper counseling and adjustment of the product. In many cases you can get a comparable product cheaper than Miracle Ear. Other hearing aid manufacturers do no franchise and advertise which does add costs on to the end product that they sell.
I would advise you to check out AARP. Often they will publish consumer comparisons of products. They have no hearing aid manufacturers interest, only the interest of the elderly reader. They have published the Consumer Guide to Hearing Aids that you should check out.
Good Luck!

Hearing aids are man’s practical need since time immemorial. When early man shouted a greeting or a threat from a distance, the listener in all probability cupped his hands behind his ears in order to better hear what was being said to him. In general, people did not live a long time up to several hundred years ago, especially the poor and the very rich, so being hard of hearing was not the problem that it is today.

Sound occurs over a wide spectrum of frequencies. The human ear is sensitive to a frequency band withing that spectrum. Since sounds occur at different frequencies, you will not be able to hear the sounds at the high end. The frequency that dogs can hear covers a different range. That is why a dog can respond to a human voice, but also to a silent dog whistle which is too high of a frequency for humans. The most common frequency hearing loss for men is the same frequency that their wives speak.

You can deduct a hearing aid as a medical expense. However, medical deductions are limited to anything above 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. For example, say your AGI was $10,000. The hearing aid and other medical expenses would have to exceed $750. Then you would only get a deduction for the amount over. Say the hearing aid and other medical expense were $1,000. Your deduction would be $250. Also, you would need additional itemized dedcution(mortgage interest, charitable contributions, etc.) in exccess of the standard deduction to make it worth it.

Filed under: EV/Plug-in, Hybrid, Chevrolet, Legislation and Policy The ongoing hearing in the U.S. House of Representatives over the Obama Administration’s fuel economy standards of 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025 brought Republican Congressman Mike Kelly to testify before the committee last week. Kelly represents Pennsylvania’s 3rd congressional district but he’s also a car dealer. After college, Kelly moved to Butler, PA to work at Kelly Chevrolet-Cadillac, a company founded by his father in the early 1950s. Kelly took ownership of the dealership in 1995, expanding its operations to include Hyundai and Kia. At the hearing, Kelly reportedly ripped apart General Motors’ green halo vehicle, the Chevy Volt. The words below come directly from a quote posted on The Truth About Cars. We’re guessing TTAC got hold of transcripts from the hearing, but that’s not been verified. Quoting Kelly: I’m a Chevrolet dealer… we have a Chevy Volt on the lot, it’s been there now for four weeks. We’ve had…

Hearing aids are not covered under the insurance policies because of their price. It becomes even more difficult for customers to put money on such a product due to the money factor involved in it. Hence, whenever you are out to buy a hearing aid, you should invest in such a product that is worth your money.
