1) He hasn't been getting unemployment for 2 years because UI benefits don't last that long. Unless he has taken part-time jobs that reduced his UI payouts, the longest he could have been on unemployment is one and a half years and even with periodic part-time jobs, he still wouldn't get benefits for 2 years.
2) He got unemployment because he probably worked for 20 years and his employers paid UI premiums so that if he lost his job through no fault of his own, he would be able to collect some money.
3) Some people inherited a lot of money from dead relatives, some people who are totally incompetent have good jobs because their fathers own the companies, some people were born with fantastically good looks and get lots of free things because other people want to be seen with them, some children are physically and sexually assaulted for years, some people are born with no arms, some people are walking to get a bus and get hit by a truck….get the picture? Life isn't fair/right/logical.

I am 6’2″ / 220 lbs (188 cm / 100 kg) and I just received my size XX-Large jacket. Sleeve length is just right with the cuffs folded in. The body length comes down to the top of my jeans pocket, about the same as my size L polo shirt. Overall size is just right, though I would want something longer if I was trying to conceal a firearm in a OWB holster. Lots of pocket space. Looks like a good purchase, though I haven’t been able to wear it much yet due to sunburned shoulders.

I live in the Upper East Side, my rent is $9,500 a month.
However, the "average" price for a two bedroom (in a safe neighborhood, elevator building, doorman, laundry-onsite, – these all cost extra) is about $4,000. If you remove the amenities mentioned, you can probably find one between $2,000-$3,000.

Lastly there is the Manhattan renting rule, which doesn't apply *everywhere* but in some of the nicer apartments, it does.
This rule is that both you and your friend need to make 40x the monthly rent in salary and have proof that you do.
I.E. if the rent is $3,000 a month, you need to earn $120,000 a year.
If you have a co-signer who isn't living with you, but helping you pay the rent, that person must make 80x the monthly rent, for $3,000/month, that's $240,000 a year.
