I know what you mean, what I have done is my hearing aid has an FM reciever and I can use my hearing aids and what ever my professors say I hear right in my hearing aids with out the added background noise. It is awesome and has helped me so much since I have been in college.
In arkansas, where i live, there is an organization called "Arkansas Rehab" that can and does help people pay for services that they need to their home or things that they might need but aren't able to afford. I think it depends on income, individual cases, needs, etc. but you might could search around on the internet for a similar service based on which state you live in.
Another idea: you could maybe contact a local service organization, or a church group and see if they might could help you out in some way. i've worked with a couple of groups of people and it is always rewarding for workers as well as for the people that are benefiting from the fixing up.
Last idea: contact a college (primarily the occupational therapy, interior design, or architecture departments) in your area and see if the students or the faculty would be interested in doing a project to help you out with the work that you need.
I don't think that you need to look into government grants. That is a long drawn out process that would probably only be useful if you were in need of a very large sum of money.
There are no such things as "personal" grants. There are federal student loans, private student loans, and scholarships. If you are already receiving a grant to pay for tuition, and you need more money, look into getting a student loan. Speak to a financial aid counselor at your school.

It's a dog…the 3-speed tyranny rev's too high on the hwy, and sap's too much power from the motor, so it will be significantly slower than a manual
Also, unless you have traction control(which 944's do not), it may be a real handful in snow or heavy rain.
944 is a GREAT car for the sunbelts…not so great in an area which has 4-real seasons. Consider also, the "newest" 944 is 21 years old…age of a car is as important as mileage when considering repair costs…the DME box alone is VERY expensive(like $1500-2000)
