Scientists at Virginia Commonwealth University have discovered that hearing loss leads to a remodelling of the brain in which auditory regions are overtaken by the sensory system that corresponds to touch. This cross-model plasticity could explain why some people with hearing loss struggle with therapies. Alex Meredith, lead scientist on the study stated, “Our study [...]

I voted for him. Had to write him in too. The govt. and media ganged up on him and stopped televising interviews. The Republican election committee thought he didn’t think like them. They pushed him aside. The media lied about his poll numbers and once again the illuminati won. We really need this man in office. He has never waivered from his stance on anything. He would of made the banks file bankruptcy and we wouldn’t be in so much debt. Stomp the NWO Ron. Love ya man. I hope you run in 2012!!

Depending how bad it is you may not get a waiver at all. I would call a recruiter and see what they think.
Current hearing threshold level in either ear greater than that described below is disqualifying:
(1) Pure tone at 500, 1000, and 2000 cycles per second for each ear of not more than 30 decibels (dB) on the average, with no individual level greater than 35 dB at those frequencies.
(2) Pure tone level not more than 45 dB at 3000 cycles per second or 55 dB at 4000 cycles per second for each ear.
(3) There is no standard for 6000 cycles per second.
Current or history of hearing aid use (V53.2) is disqualifying.

OK the loss of hearing occurs when you hear very loud noise for a while daily (ipods, Cd's, Music in general)
your ear is just like a drum when noise enters it hits the skin that's stretched over it and that signals to your head. hearing loss happens 2 ways
1.) if your exposed to loud noise daily your stretched skin stretches even more and it wont be able to vibrate as well and your brain wont receive as much signals.
2.) is when your skin rips, cuts, etc. so it wont be able to vibrate at all and this when you are no longer to hear at all from that ear
i hope this answered your question

There could be a number of possibilities going on such as endometriosis (just using endometriosis as an example only) but the only way to know for sure what is going on is to see your doctor for further evaluation of the situation to see what they think could be going on.

What type (in the ear, behind the ear, in the canal) of hearing aids are they? Does she wear ear molds? If so, are they different than the ones she used to wear? Sometimes ear molds can cause some sounds to be filtered out, and can cause the hearing aids to sound different.
When my students upgrade or change their technology, it usually takes 2-3 months before they get used to them. Good luck!

In some people, the glands produce an excess of ear wax. Any sharp substance used to clean the ear wax may injure the eardrum leading to a permanent hearing loss. You may look for some natural remedies to avoid ear blockage.

I'm a little puzzled. Whether he has some hearing loss or not and whether or not he is developmentally delayed really shouldn't be an issue as long as he can process instructions. Tell him that what he is doing is nasty, that you are not going to accept or tolerate it, and that it is to stop immediately. Give him a stuffed toy or something so he'll feel more comfortable, but explain to him that this is not allowed. If he does it again, punish him just as you would for any other act of defiance. Don't let him get away with not obeying you.
You're going to have to realize that just because this child has had some problems, that does not exempt him from needing the guidance and discipline of his parents. A hearing loss is not an excuse for not minding. Tell him what you expect of him, be firm about it, and let the consequences teach him if he disregards what you are telling him.

Honestly, Miracle Ear is my least favorite brand of hearing aid.
I have worked as a hearing instrument specialist for 12 years now. I am qualified in the United Kingdom and also in America, where I live now. I have dispensed almost every major brand of aid out there. For six years I worked for independent companies that really didn't care what brand I dispensed.
In my experience Miracle Ear is one step up from the kind of junk you can order online or by mail order. They use cheap imported parts, and their technology is lagging far behind the better hearing aids.
For me I am a big fan of Starkey and Audibel. They make quality American hearing aids. Their latest nFusion technology is the most advanced out there. I also like Oticon and ReSound if you don't mind non-American companies. I think Siemens is a shade overrated and expensive.
Whatever you buy check that they have a good follow up program. Make sure you can listen to a real hearing system before you buy; any good hearing center will have BTE digital test aids you can listen to. Make sure you get a trial period of at least 30 days. Make sure you trust and believe in the hearing professional you are dealing with. Do not be afraid to ask for references. Good hearing professionals keep a list of patients who don't mind being contacted.
Avoid buying on price alone. A good hearing aid will cost over $2,500. Once you have settled on a price try and push for a longer factory warranty at no extra price. You may or may not get it, but it is worth having.
Good luck.

Generally, hearing aids from a doctor are of better quality than those who aren't. The audiologist knows you better than these other people do, and know what is right for you, and what isn't.
I have my hearing aids from my audiologist, and I have never had any problems with it personally. Even though it's pricier, it's worth it. I don't trust these adverts. Anyway, good luck, and ask your audiologist for more information.

We’ve confirmed the rumors of Myspace layoffs with our own inside source; From what I’m hearing the company expects to lay off at least 150 of its around 400 employees tomorrow (37.5% of its staff). According to the source, another group of around 150 employees will be put on a transition plan, where they will still be laid off but can work with pay for a few weeks while they search for another job. Myspace cut around 47% of its staff back in January and these new layoffs come as Myspace is preparing itself for a sale, which we’re hearing will be signed tomorrow and announced on Friday. While there are multiple rumors circling regarding who exactly will be buying the beleaguered social network, the names being tossed around include a bidding group fronted by Activision CEO Bobby Kotick, Buzzmedia, and even LivingSocial.

Don't worry about the brand of phone, because all of the phones can be equipped with a volume controlled head set.
Worry about coverage and clarity of signal. My best experience so far are with T-Mobile and Verizon, away from Cingular or Sprint PCS.
I think both of those providers have great family plans, by the way and have good coverage in your area.

Some days back I read a news stating that passive smoking can make kids go deaf. After some days I came around another piece of news which claimed that a teenager exposed to second-hand smoke is twice as likely to suffer from hearing loss. According to scientists, passive smoking affects the blood supply to the area which makes it harder for the person to understand speech and has been linked to poor and disruptive behaviour in school. This also includes increased risk of asthma, heart disease and lung cancer. I am shocked. Where is our new generation going? Why are they doing so? Many questions arise in my mind. What is our new generation looking for? Heaven lies in childhood. A child is seer and a philosopher, certainly he has in him saintly qualities of innocence, love and joy. He is free from malice, hatred, and vice. Despite of having such natural qualities why are they spoiling their lives. It is very easy to blame the children for impatience, indiscipline, and irrevence for the…

“*Defining life at conception at the Federal level would not have created a legal bar for abortion.* Bullshit. *The Act specifically left jurisdiction over abortion issues to the states to decide how to handle termination of an unborn child.* That was in the revised version the second or third time he submitted it because he knew that it would be easier to ban abortion on the state level then on the Federal level. He also added the bit about ignoring all existing case law on the subject and banning the SCOTUS from hearing cases on abortion rights so that state laws could not be challenged in Federal courts even thought they clearly would violate the Constitutional rights of women. That’s what your “strict Constitutionalist” wanted to do. *I don’t know how many times I need to keep explaining this.* Until you understand that Ron Paul doesn’t give a fuck about individual rights or the Constitution. Unless, of course, we’re discussing the rights of white, heterosexual, wealthy, property…”

“Did you know… IT IS ILLEGAL TO THROW AWAY COMMON HOUSEHOLD BATTERIES. Under the California Universal Waste Rule, household batteries can no longer be disposed of in the trash because they contain toxic metals such as mercury, lead, cadmium, and nickel. Batteries that end up in landfills may have a negative affect on our environment and food chain, potentially causing serious health risks to humans and animals. In an effort to educate and encourage County residents to properly dispose of their household batteries, Public Works has partnered with the County of Los Angeles Public Library, to utilize library locations for the proper collection of household batteries. This pilot program offers battery collection containers at designated llibraries throughout the County. The program was designed to offer residents a free and convenient outlet to dispose of common household batteries such as: Dry Cell Batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, 9-Volt) Rechargeable Batteries (used in cell phones and power tools) Button Cell Batteries (used in watches, cameras, and hearing aids)”

Court to decide fate of Rinkle Kumari, 19, who claims she was kidnapped, converted to Islam and married against her will The fate of a Pakistani Hindu woman who claims she was kidnapped, forcibly converted to Islam and married against her will is to be decided this week after weeks of campaigning by the country’s embattled Hindu minority. The case of 19-year-old Rinkle Kumari has outraged Hindus from her small town in the south of the country, where community leaders accuse Muslims of preying on Hindu girls of marriageable age. Some claim similar cases are helping to fuel a steady outflow of Pakistan’s tiny Hindu community as families choose to move to Hindu majority India instead. In a hearing, which begins on Monday, the supreme court in Islamabad will try to get to the bottom of the hotly contested versions of events. The town’s Muslims, backed by a powerful local politician, say Kumari freely converted to Islam to marry her neighbour, Naveed Shah, on 24 February. But her father, a…
