Absolutely the best, if you are evaluated as an appropriate subject, is the cochlear implant. You need to read up on it, and it is a surgical implant, but it is what they use nowadays for even little children with profound hearing loss.

America is doomed! This country belongs to corporate interests and the MIC and there is only the delusion of democracy. Politicians pit us against each other based on race, gender or religion. The America that allowed the flourishing intellect of people like Bugliosi is gone and will never return! instead we are a nation of silly kids playing w/ high tech toys. I look forward to the current America’s ultimate demise — in hopes that a better America will rise in its place!

I found a few links that may help you. Personally, we sat our grandfather down and explained that if he didn't go in for testing grandma was going to stop listening to HIM until he did….but grandpa was really a stubborn ornery sort of person and I wouldn't recommend that approach for many people. The links are probably more appropriate for your situation. :)

It may help if you could get him to discuss why he doesn't want a hearing aid. They make almost invisible ones cheaper now if he's vain about it. Perhaps he doesn't want to spend the money or doesn't have insurance that would cover it. In the end there may be nothing that will convince him to get one, but good luck with your efforts hun.

Not really frequency but volume. There are small bones which can become misaligned and ducts which can become blocked, and if either happens, yourhearing would be quieter

But whatever the case, all frequencies will be transmitted the same

However its also possible to damage nerve cells with the function of separate frequencies, so now that I think of it, you may be right. However, it is much more rare to see damaged nerve cells than to see damaged bones or clogged ducts. .

  29. chrido lon Says:

Sound occurs over a wide spectrum of frequencies. The human ear is sensitive to a frequency band withing that spectrum. Since sounds occur at different frequencies, you will not be able to hear the sounds at the high end. The frequency that dogs can hear covers a different range. That is why a dog can respond to a human voice, but also to a silent dog whistle which is too high of a frequency for humans. The most common frequency hearing loss for men is the same frequency that their wives speak.

I'm not sure about any cell phones, but you can get a Phonak Smart Link FM system, which has blue tooth technology, and you can plug your cell phone into it, which will send the signal directly into your hearing aid. You'd have to buy a reciever to attach to your hearing aid as well. This can be expensive, but if you're planning on using your phone a lot it would be worth it. I would suggest you call Phonak's FM division and ask them more about it. Good luck!

  35. corde Says:

Permanent hearing loss is usually only an issue when the patient has multiple ear infections that result in scarring of the tympanic membrane (ear drum). In that case, the scar tissue prevents the drum from vibrating well. One ear infection would be unusual to cause hearing loss, but can result in long term fluid behind the ear drum that can decrease hearing.

Cloud was still probably the most talked about topic this week at OSCon. Cloud computing is still in the process of changing the way we work and do business, but let’s face it: many vendors and consultants are overhyping the benefits, and a lot of us are just getting a bit tired of hearing the word “cloud.” Cloud hype’s not going away any time soon, but we can at least vent a little about some of the particular technologies we think are exaggerated. Which one irks you the most?
