Nobody wants to contemplate the tragedies that can overtake a family in the aftermath of a natural disaster. But after listening to the anguish of victims of Hurricane Katrina, preparing for a natural disaster should be on everybody’s mind. Even if you do not live in an area likely to experience hurricanes, there are still many different natural disasters to prepare for, including floods, wildfires, tornados and earthquakes. Any one of these natural disasters can cut off electricity and water and leave you and your family stranded. Having an emergency plan and supply kits really can signify the difference between an annoying situation and a catastrophe. Preparing for a natural disaster is as easy as buying groceries at the supermarket. The fundamental point is to know what your family needs and for how long.
Begin Getting Ready for a Natural Disaster Right Away
The good thing about preparing for a natural disaster is that you can do it rather quickly and economically. To begin with, select a cool, dry place to store supplies. Your first priority should be food and water. Purchase containers of water from supermarket, so you won’t have to be concerned about bacteria or other cross contamination. You should have a three-day store of water for each person in your family. Fit adults require at least one-half gallon of water a day. Children, nursing mothers and sick people will require more water. If the temperature is rising, you will also need extra water per person. Food in your emergency supply kit should be canned or other non-perishables-nothing that requires cooking or have water mixed in it. Good selections include granola bars, peanut butter and jelly, canned juice, trail mix and ready-to-eat meats, vegetables and fruits. And don’t forget the can opener!
Alongside food and water, you should also have a well-stocked first aid kit with ample bandages, antiseptic, thermometer, tweezers, soap, latex gloves and sunscreen. You should also put in some pain reliever, antacid and an emetic substance (to induce vomiting). You also need at least one entire change of clothing per person, outer wear, blankets or sleeping bags and sturdy shoes or boots. To aid in keeping everything and everyone as clean as possible, don’t forget to put in toilet paper, antiseptic, soap detergent, garbage bags with twist ties and other personal hygiene articles in your natural disaster supply kit.
Don’t Forget to Allow for Any Particular Needs of Family Members
Infants and anyone on special medication or with other medical needs require extra emergency supplies. For infants, you should pack formula, bottles, diapers, pacifiers, diaper rash cream and any medicines. Normal medications many adults need include blood pressure medication, prescription medication, insulin, contact lenses or glasses, denture products and hearing aid batteries.
You should also always deposit a copy of significant documents in a safe place that you can access in case of a natural disaster. This includes wills, insurance policies, contracts, stocks, bonds, deeds, photo IDs, social security cards, credit card information and bank account numbers. Store these articles in a waterproof/fireproof strong box that you can move easily. You may also want to pop in some cash, in case you cannot access your ATM or bank in the aftermath of a natural disaster.

Buy lots of freezer pops.
Keep a large tupperware full of water in the freezer. Take the frozen block out of the bowl and place it in a pan in front of a floor fan. The fan will blow air past the block of ice, which will cool the air as it melts. When the block has melted, refill with water and replace in the freezer. Repeat as necessary.
If you live in a breezy area, put a box fan on the side of your house that is always in the shade (the north side during the summer). The air on the shady side will be cooler, and you can pull it in.
Keep the shades down on the sun side of your house (south side)
Install the mirror finish plastic film stuff you can buy at Wal Mart. It reflects heat out. I had some in my apt in California. It reduced the air temp in the hottest room quite noticeably. Just be careful to install it with as few wrinkles as possible because it looks terrible when you get them.
Check your doorjamb for gaps. This lets in bugs and makes your a/c less efficient.
Replace the filter on your a/c. A clean filter helps the machine run better, with less electricity use.
Try to open your fridge as little as possible. With the heat, it has to work harder to stay cool, and the compressor/motor generates heat. You open it less, it has to work less.

His look in the film definitely deviates from the book, but is still pretty distinctive and cool in itself. That imposing dark figure with the glowing red eyes is pretty haunting, and certainly different from the typical image of a vampire. Just wish he got to be in more of the movie. Also bonus cool points that he was designed by Enki Bilal, a very cool artist.

True Christianity would have to react by feeding the hungry and thirsty, clothing the naked and protecting and loving the fatherless.
Sorry I am not up on my Daoism and Taoism but if I remember they all have the teachings of love and brotherhood so I would think each will react according to their ability.

Well of course the weapons used during the Revolutionary War weren't as accurate, didn't have as much distance etc.
Also, they did cause damage since:
- doctors weren't so good at that time so they didn't know as well about infections and such.
- bullets weren't as well made and not as many precautions were taken by the one's getting shot at (not as much open warfare in later years).
I believe 100 yards was considered far.. If I'm not mistaken 50 yards were about how far engagements were between troops.
American-made rifles (such as those used by the frontiersmen) were MUCH better than the British "Brown Bess" muskets. They were much more accurate and had much more range. They were hand made and better for the country.. more sturdy. They also found that a smaller round with powder was just as good if not better than a huge round with the same power.. and had better range.
I'm sure that by the time the American Revolution came around they were used to what a bullet did to a human.. not so much that they could fix or stop it, but I'm sure they were used to seeing a limb shatter from a bullet.

auto-quote: Filed under: FrontierVille
To go along with the release of the Fowl Pond in FrontierVille comes a trio of new goals that should do well to keep you busy while you work on constructing the Pond itself. It should be noted that receiving these goals is dependent on you actually placing the Fowl Pond on your land, so (as of this writing), they are entirely voluntary, as they won’t even show up to you if you don’t “want” them to.
The first of these three goals is called “Duck, Duck…” and it asks you to feed some of the new Ducks available in the game’s store.
Feed 15 Ducks on your Homestead
Clear 15 Debris on Neighbors’ Homesteads
Clobber Two Foxes
The only ducks that will count for this mission are the Ducks that you can now purchase from the store. As we told you in our guide to building the Fowl Pond, this new Duck is available for 261 coins (with the store discount), and can be harvested from once every 3.5 hours. For finishing this first goal (the Foxes can also be brought out from Ducks, speeding up the process), you’ll receive 300 coins, 300 XP, and one Goose Ready Boost.
Moving on, goal two is called “Goose!” Get the joke? Duck Duck… Goose! Clever Zynga. For this one, you’ll need to collect quite a few items from friends, so get ready to click that “Ask” button.
Feed 30 Adult Geese on your Homestead
Collect 15 Pond Scum Kits
Harvest 30 Corn
Remember, you don’t actually have to have 30 Adult Geese already on your land, as you can simply wait for the same Goose to become hungry again to feed it a second or even third time, all depending on how many times it takes to reach 30 in total. For finishing this second goal, you’ll receive 500 coins, 500 XP and one Downy Feather.
Finally, the third goal in this series is called “Egg-Citing Surprises!” and it will require you to have finished building the Fowl Pond to complete.
Collect 3 Fowl Pond Daily Bonuses
Store 100 Animals in the Fowl Pond
Collect 20 Crushed Oyster Shells
As a reminder, the Fowl Pond can store only adult Swans, Ducks (including Injured Ducks), Turtles, Frogs, Geese and Penguins. It doesn’t matter which animals you store, and in which combination, so long as you reach 100. It may also be possible to remove animals from the Pond only to re-store them as has been the case in the past (that is, ignoring the 100 total animal limit altogether), but we haven’t had a chance to try out that “exploit” just yet. No matter how you get there, once you finish this goal, you’ll receive 750 coins, 750 XP and a Fowl Statue for your land.
And there you have it. These goals don’t seem too difficult, and with only three to complete, they shouldn’t bog you down for too long before moving onto other things.
What do you think of these FrontierVille Fowl Pond goals? Will you place the Fowl Pond to begin these goals, or will you ignore the Fowl Pond (and therefore these goals) altogether? Let us know in the comments. Permalink | Email this | Linking Blogs | Comments

No it will not save you money, but look to green sites for better ways to heat your home if you are that concerned about environmental issues. The greenest gas is methane which pollutes our environment and to burn it is cleaner than releasing it. It comes out of the ass and fermenting poo of all mammals. If you install a septic tank you will have your own gas supply. Or eat allot of veggies and stick a tube where the sun don't shine.

Currents is an application that converts newsfeeds into an attractive format where you can read them on iPods, iPhones, iPads and Android devices, on or offline – for free.
From the few minutes I played with Currents, it looks good, although I don’t think it automatically updates its editions when I update the blog.
If you want to check it out, just download Google Currents onto your mobile device, search for Elder of Ziyon and add it.
If you like it and want to use it, let me know, or else I won’t remember to keep it updated.

What does it look like when your relatively safe, stable and secure way of life is plunged into chaos, disorder and violence? Though history is replete with examples of entire civilizations collapsing for various reasons, we need only review the events of the last century to see how quickly modern-day society can devlolve into hell on Earth.
Whether the cause is a natural disaster, economic and monetary calamity, political revolution, or armed conflict, the consequences for the general population can be severe.
When just-in-time food and medicine distribution systems fail, utility infrastructures crumble, emergency response becomes non-existent, and the rule of law becomes unenforceable, only survival will matter.
