The travel writer has journeyed the length of Latin America by motorcycle, but has special memories of an easy-going corner of Guatemala Guatemala’s Rio Dulce is a short river. It flows eastward from Lago Izabal to the small Caribbean port of Livingston. The only bridge spanning the river is immediately below the lake. The town of Fronteras began as a truck stop at the northern end of the bridge. Fronteras was and is a dump. I have a soft spot for dumps. I first stayed close by 30 years ago with a Guatemalan friend, Eugenio Gobato, at his riverside hacienda where he ran a bar/restaurant with a bunkroom above and four thatch huts. The river expands below the bridge into a 20km-long lake dotted with mangrove islands and indented with creeks blanketed in water lilies and with magnificent trees shading the shore. The lake is sheltered by a distant ring of mountains. Below the lake the narrow Rio Dulce gorge leads to the sea. Vertical cliffs tower 100m above the water. Trees and ferns and…

I don't think Medicare CAN.
Medicaid, however, CAN. There's a five year lookback, and if the kids too her asset – the house – for themselves, within five years of her death, instead of using it to pay Medicaid back. It's a form of fraud, and Medicaid can put a lein on up to 100% of the fair market value of the house, if it was transferred to the kids below market price or gifted to them.
The executor of her estate, should have sold her home, and used the procedes to pay off Medicaid. If the procedes were distributed to the kids, they're each legally liable, up to 100% of what they got, until the $45,000 is paid.

They can bill you and collect for all unpaid utilities. You KNEW that you were supposed to pay those utilities, didn't you ? The statute of limitations for such contractual agreements is FOUR years in the State of California. Thus, the landlord can successfully take you to court to effect payment for the last four years.
Time to pay up.

This almost seems like a 50s show made in the 80s, I mean this was pretty silly and corny, even by 80s standards. But if I remember correctly this was a syndicated series, so it never aired on a big network which is how they got away with this ridiculous theme song. Still cool memories of childhood…

I think the odds are that it would die in the chrysalis or as a caterpillar. The only thing that would cause it to come out wrong would be some kind of defect. So it would be more likely to die before it even has the chance to emerge.

Inspect the roofs of your buildings frequently. Check for breaks, missing shingles, choked gutters, damaged flashing, and defective mortar joints at chimneys, parapets, and coping. Repair defects promptly. Even small defects can result in damage to the sheathing, framing, and interior finish. You can probably repair small defects yourself. Large defects or damages should be repaired by professional workmen. An inexperienced person may do more harm than good.

I know this probably wasn't intended as a trick question, but it requires a tricky answer.
What you have described, that the federal first-time home buyer tax credit deadline is "all but extended" is essentially correct…emphasis on the "all but." There is general agreement in the Senate to approve the extension, giving buyers an additional five months to take advantage of the tax break and expanding it to certain classes of buyers who were previously excluded.
However, the reason you have not been able to find a bill yet is that the plan is not yet included in a bill. It is currently a proposed amendment to the Unemployment Compensation Extension Act (H.R. 3548). The Senate voted on Monday, November 2 to invoke cloture on the proposed amendment, which is a fancy way of saying they voted to stop debating the proposal and take a vote on it. The vote to adopt the amendment will almost certainly take place this week. Once the bill is amended and passed by the Senate, the House of Representatives will have to concur, then the bill will be passed on to the President for his signature.
So while the tax credit has not yet been extended, it continues to move in that direction and it appears likely that the extension will ultimately be enacted.

posted by: Giorgio Bertini remarks: Nearly forty percent of humanity lives on an average of two dollars a day or less. If you’ve never had to survive on an income so small, it is hard to imagine. How would you put food on the table, afford a home, and educate your children? How would you handle emergencies and old age? Every day, more than a billion people around the world must answer these questions. Portfolios of the Poor is the first book to explain systematically how the poor find solutions to their everyday financial problems. The authors conducted year-long interviews with impoverished villagers and slum dwellers in Bangladesh, India, and South Africa–records that track penny by penny how specific households manage their money. The stories of these families are often surprising and inspiring. Most poor households do not live hand to mouth, spending what they earn in a desperate bid to keep afloat. Instead, they employ financial tools, many linked to informal networks and family…
