A South Side man was charged with armed robbery and intimidating a witness, accused of beating his disabled barber in a pair of attacks the same day in March, according to prosecutors. Jermaine Owens, of the 0-99 block of North Pine Avenue, was ordered held in lieu of $500,000 bail today by Judge Donald Panarese Jr. at a court hearing. Owens and another man already charged in the case, Herbert Gary, are accused of approaching Owens’ barber, whom prosecutors said is missing a leg and has limited use of his left arm, as the man sat in his car March 18. The incident occurred in the 3300 block of West Division Street. Owens allegedly grabbed the man’s chain necklace as Gary beat the man with a two-by-four board, Assistant State’s Atty. Sam Cervera said, allowing Owens to make off with the chain and a medallion attached to it, he said. The barber emerged with scrapes and bruises to his head, Cervera said. About five hours later, Owens and Gary allegedly went to the man’s house, in the 3200…

First, the judge will make sure that all involved parties are present. I am assuming that child support is involved, so they will most likely have a representative there. If you are to give testimony, then you will be sworn in.
In my experience, the judge will ask the potential father if he wishes to acknowledge paternity. If he says yes, it's pretty much over. He will sign an acknowledgment of paternity, and the judge will most likely rule on child support at the same time, if he has correct employment information.
If he says no, then the judge will most likely order a paternity test and the case will be continued until the results are available.

Sound occurs over a wide spectrum of frequencies. The human ear is sensitive to a frequency band withing that spectrum. Since sounds occur at different frequencies, you will not be able to hear the sounds at the high end. The frequency that dogs can hear covers a different range. That is why a dog can respond to a human voice, but also to a silent dog whistle which is too high of a frequency for humans. The most common frequency hearing loss for men is the same frequency that their wives speak.

Absolutely fascinating. At the time it happened I became obsessed with it–bought many Enron items with the “E” logo, even got a nice new Swiss Army watch with the logo that was removed from eBay because the seller didn’t have authority to sell SAK products. However, I had sent him an e-mail and was able to contact him after it was removed and got it for $55! I’m currently reading Conspiracy of Fools by Kurt Eichenwald–I’m where Skilling is going to be made COO.

When it's due to accident it's not possible to restore (husband had same thing) so all you can do is amplify to whatever degree possible. Your hearing will still be distorted because of the damage. You might be expecting too much of a restoration to your hearing. If you have hearing aids then you have already been tested.

Hi Sara!
Protect your hearing at all cost. Like all things, you don't know what it's worth until it's gone.
If you are not sure, or comfortable, with your Doctor's initial diagnosis, seek another opinion.
Also, do you feel that the level of hearing loss you have is effecting your life in any way? Does it effect your ability to go about your life normally?
As to what can be done, that depends very much on what has/is causing the hearing loss.
I can say with intimate knowledge, once your hearing has gone, there is very little that can be done to return it to "normal".
I lost my hearing extremely suddenly and unexpectedly after getting a cold. The infection was that devastating, it just about completely destroyed the delicate hair folicles in my cochlear. I was given rapid steroid treatment, to try to stimulate some healing and growth, with very limited results.
I was fitted with 2 hearing aids, which gave me little benefit. I have since received a cochlear implant, and responding very well to my new way of hearing. All this has happened in the past 18 months.
But…it is not as good as natural hearing.
Most adults, in Australia it is about 1 in 6, have some level of hearing loss, and most know nothing about it.
My advise to you is simple.
If you aren't happy or sure, ask another professional, and keep asking until you understand, and accept, the diagnosis.
Protect and treasure what you have, and be aware of any change, no matter how small. If anything does change, see a specialist. Quick treatment can mean the world of difference.
Please value the fact that you CAN still hear, there are so many others out there who cannot.
All the best…

You can basically do anything that does not require a phone. I'm hearing impaired also, and as long as I steer clear of jobs requiring long phone hours (i.e. 911 dispatcher like your past position, customer service rep, telemarketer) I've never had a problem. I've worked in a variety of different positions, industries, and settings, and the key is just making sure that you are up front with your supervisor and anyone else you feel needs to know.
Every single supervisor I've had has offered to work with me to ensure I have the tools to perform my job to the best of my abilities, hearing impairment or not.To avoid any discrimination on the basis of disability, employers are bound by law to provide you with reasoanble accommodation. For instance, my supervisor reviews conference calls with me after the fact (in a very respectful way) to ensure nothing was missed. Also, I primarily use email to communicate and am exempt from all those "pick up the phone and talk to someone instead of impersonally emailing them" lectures.
Basically, you can do anything. Follow your passions and be up front about your hearing impairment – that's the best advice I have.

Hearing aids are a device which helps people to hear it isn't a disease, they look like this.
So know you can't get hearing aids from listening to the same sing your friends are messing around, there is an illness called aids which can come from using needles other people have used ect.
But the answer is this isn't true.
July 23rd, 2011 at 10:21 pm
I'm not sure this device is the same as you describe. Even so, it may work as well or better for your situation. It's called a Stealth Secret Sound Amplifier and looks like a blue-tooth.
