I don't think so. And if you were to say "suffer from hearing loss", to anyone in the Deaf community, they would be very offended. Any person who views themself as being Deaf does not see a disability, but they see themselves as part of a very strong community. Perhaps individuals outside of the community have low self-esteem, but I have never known one person with hearing loss to be that way, and I've known hundreds.

Eric, it must have been a shock to wake up to the sudden deafness in your only good ear. In the end the ENT doctors really have no clue as to what causes Sudden Hearing Loss. They need to do Differential Diagnosis before they treat anyone. In August of 2008 I woke up with severe Sudden Sensorineural loss in my right ear. Word recognition is 0% but it’s not as bad as yours. I am convinced it was a toxilogical cause wich caused free radical damage. Injections of Prednisone did not work.

Yes, it could – either by constant inflammation producing fluid in the middle ear (otitis media) or by infections doing damage to either the ear drum (possibly perforating it) or damaging the tiny hairs in the inner ear that transmit the sound to the nerves. If you're getting recurring infections, it already is serious in the long run. You should see a doctor about getting appropriate treatment – you may have a drug-resistant infection that will need stronger antibiotics than usual.

You cant afford a doc eh? I recommend some home remedies my great Uncle Al did.
Take 1 tbl spoon of cinnamon and 8 oz of milk. Let it sit outside in the sun for 24 hours (1day). Then put the moisture on your cotton swab and place in your ear for 2 days straight, 3 times a day. The cinnamon creates a scratchy substance when its churned in the sun by the milk. This substance will release particles like vics vapor rub would for your nose.
Another home remedy would be to apply ben gay around your ear, but not totally in your ear. Leave and let it sit for 30mins, then place some inside your ear. It has the same effect as above but works faster.

Yes, you can recycle hearing aids and glasses! There are organizations that will take them, recondition them and then provide them to needy people. Try the Lions Organization. Also, there are hearing professionals that will take them in and redistribute them to needy people that fit that prescription. Good Luck

What a load of crap. Very un-imformative information about hearing aids. The people that sell hearing aids for a living are better versed to properly fit a hearing aid over a doctor. Doctors spend more time treating ear illnesses then learning the process to fit a hearing aid properly. Doctors are a business also. they see hundreds of people a week treating people because it takes up to six+ months to get paid from the insurance. Its not like that automatically makes them more qualified.

these people that don’t have hearing loss are SOO LUCKY! they can do anything they want with their life with nothing stopping them. i can’t. i wanna be a police officer but find out i can’t be cause of my hearin loss. i do require to wear hearing aids so i can hear like a person with no damage hearing can. it sucks a lot. it stops me from having fun in life cause i always thinkin of future, and where im gonna end up due to my hearin loss. im 17. i found out i had hearin loss in the 5th grade.
