get the in-ear earphones… cheap, over the ear headphones reflect a lot of the sound away from your ears to others… in-ear headsets pretty much direct the sound right into your ear… someone would have to practically put their ear next to yours to hear your music

This will depend on your life style. Perfect hearing is -10 to 10, Normal hearing is 0 to -10 and Average is -10 to -20 dBs. Some people that are involved in Music will want a hearing aid if they are at -20 because they will be needing to hear some frequiencies more clearly.
GENERALY speaking, if you are at -30 and below in frequencies 250, 500, 750, 1000, 1200, 2000 —- You will want a digital hearing aid.

If your hoping to join one of the Special forces e.g. The Royal Air Force (RAF) then if you have problems with your eyesight/hearing then you will not even begin air-crew training.
If your eyesight/hearing is threatening to the safety of yourself, your team & civilians you will not begin training.
Vision problems = No you cannot become a pilot.
Hearing problems = Can be treated; so possibly.

Nothing at this point. If the doc said you had "slight" hearing loss in one ear, don't sweat it. Now, if he said you have some condition that will result in progressive hearing loss, then you need to look into hearing aids or the possibility of ear surgery. Best thing to do now to protect yourself from further hearing loss is (a) don't listen to music too loud, and (b) wear hearing protection if you're in an environment where you'll be exposed to loud noises, like using power tools or going to concerts.

I'm your age, and just got mine in february last year. I feel the same way. I'm the only kid my age in my school with them, and alot of kids have no idea what they are. I'm very self conscious with them, myself, and don't like wearing my hair up (although with sports, and fashion-wise, it's difficult). It's gotten so far that I have people sitting behind me reach out to touch them. WEIRD. I don't personally like the skin color ones, mainly because one of my teachers wears them, and they look like masses in the ear canal. Anyway, those are always an option. Often, i forget I'm wearing them! I'll be in the shower, and will need to check my ears. My best advice is to be confident. It seems a little weird, but just be confident and no one will notice. It sometimes help if i letmy hair hang a little lower over my ears, or if i let a tendril or 2 hang out. Just remember to be confident. Alot of the people in school have seen or talked to someone about their hearing aids before. It's no big deal. If you ever need some advice or whatever, feel free to e-mail me!

Check with your local Lions Club. They have a program for low cost hearing aids for those in need, and have been super nice to me. I have the same problems, but my audiologists said that my hearing loss could not be helped with hearing aids.

Asking your Doctor is the best route to take once taken colors can be an option for you and the child. We have recently had a family member a child age of 2 go thru the coplin implant,this is where a hearing device is placed between the skin and the skull, it is powered by bat tries she carries around her waist, this child was 100% deaf in both ears, do not know your case, this may be an option as well check again with her or his doctor, our little angel is doing very well with them and she can now say mama and dada,,here's looking to her future!! Wow I about cried when I saw this video! You can totally see a huge difference in his awareness and behavior with the hearing aids! I lost complete hearing in my right side by having a fever of 104.4 when I was in kindergarten… my left has about 50% hearing loss. I stopped wearing hearing aids in 94 and now I’m realizing I need to not be embarrassed about my disability and instead need to do something about it. I don’t have $2,000 for a hearing aid though.

Permanent hearing loss is usually only an issue when the patient has multiple ear infections that result in scarring of the tympanic membrane (ear drum). In that case, the scar tissue prevents the drum from vibrating well. One ear infection would be unusual to cause hearing loss, but can result in long term fluid behind the ear drum that can decrease hearing.

I'm not sure about any cell phones, but you can get a Phonak Smart Link FM system, which has blue tooth technology, and you can plug your cell phone into it, which will send the signal directly into your hearing aid. You'd have to buy a reciever to attach to your hearing aid as well. This can be expensive, but if you're planning on using your phone a lot it would be worth it. I would suggest you call Phonak's FM division and ask them more about it. Good luck!

I couldn’t agree more. As someone with hearing loss it is difficult for me to hear dialogue over the music. Closed captioning helps, but that can be irritating to others watching TV with me and often it competes with the network’s self promotions running on the bottom of the screens. And forget watching movies in the theater, half the time I miss the dialogue. I wish film makers would get a clue.
