Usually if you have inner ear damage you will also have hearing loss. But if your question is about getting into the Marines, then trust your audiologist. The Marines will give you the same kind of "push the button when you hear the beep" test and if you're in the normal range you pass. Inner ear problems can affect your balance, but that's not what they're testing for.

Ok, use your brain. If you use ear plugs or ear protection, how are you gonna hear the plays, audibles, and snap count? I say you can get a hearing loss but you can't prevent it. I was born with a hearing problem and I played football for 13 years and it was hard to hear the plays as it is. Imagine if they wore ear plugs.

I think premature births, if REALLY premature, can cause a baby to be deaf. I do know that ear infections can cause hearing loss. I heard something the other day that said 1 in 10 kids will have some hearing damage by the age of 5 due to ear infections.

Nerve loss can occur in premature birth, especially if there was some oxygen deprivation during the first moments. It may also be a congenital problem that was present before birth.
Infections in the middle ear usually cause middle ear problems and not so much nerve loss, so it is coincidental that you had a bad ear infection as a child and also nerve loss.

As a mother with a child with severe Apraxia of Speech, sign language has been a necessity. Our son, 7, can hear but not respond verbally. Teaching our whole family has been somewhat of a challenge but being able to communicate with our son is truly priceless. The Signing Time videos have been an excellent learning base.
I enjoy seeing children's programs that incorporate sign language in their shows.

I wear one in each ear, so I can relate. I don't understand either, since they cost more than a computer, and don't do nearly as much! Custom fitting is a simple, inexpensive procedure using plastic; the circuitry is basically the same for all of them; etc.etc. There is no reason for such an expense. By the way I wear two recently purchased CIC models by Starkey, digitals with volume control, and they were only half the cost you cite.

Look into the Starkey Fund – they base their coverage on financial need. She would be fit with Starkey hearing aids through this fund. Also check out the Lions Club as they sometimes fund purchases for people in their area in need. Check out your church too. Funds are in place for people in need for sure. You just have to do some leg work, make some calls and ask. They don't advertise these kinds of services. I am not sure if Michigan has hearing aid coverage for Medicaid recipients. But you may want to check that out as well.
You may want to see if the audiologist you work with could suggest some cheaper options, reconditioned instruments, or payment plans. Good luck!

Wireless communication between left and right hearing aids offers a couple different benefits:
1. Binaural sound processing: our brains are wired to process sounds coming into both left and right ears together. This binaural processing allows humans to localize sound based on timing differences of when the sound(s) reached the right versus left ear. When hearing aids are used, this natural localization phenomenon is often lost due to timing differences in the processing of sound between the two hearing aids. Now because the two hearing aids are essentially talking to one another, the processing/timing of the two hearing aids is the same – thus the natural sound's timing characteristics are not lost and we are still able to localize sound and have spatial awareness. Localization/spatial awareness not only allows us to identify the source of a sound but can aid in our ability to understand speech and other important environmental cues for safety.
2. Binaural synchronization: today's digital hearing aids have many advanced features such as noise reduction and speech enhancement algorithms, directional microphones (which activate to reduce background noise), anti-echo algorithms and many more. These advanced features automatically activate based on the environment and can change the perception of the sound within one's environment. All are very beneficial however if a hearing aid wearer is an environment with sound sources all around them, these advanced features may activate in one ear and not the other. With binaural synchronization (the two hearing aids talking to one another) the two hearing aids work together and the features are activated in both hearing aids. This provides balanced sound quality and allows the hearing aids to work together and at the same time to combat things like background noise.
So yes wireless communication between hearing aids does help and it is the future of hearing aids. It is a feature worth investing in by spending a little extra money on.
Most new digital hearing aids being sold by hearing aid manufacturers will begin to have this feature because it is so beneficial. In fact expect all future hearing aids to have wireless capabilities standard on hearing aids.

They arrived in a city defended by three Allied brigades—one each from the UK, the US, and France (the Forces Françaises à Berlin). On 16 August, Kennedy had given the order for them to be reinforced. Early on 19 August, the 1st Battle Group, 18th Infantry (commanded by Colonel Glover S. Johns Jr.) was alerted.[47]
On Sunday morning, U.S. troops marched from West Germany through East Germany, bound for West Berlin. Lead elements—arranged in a column of 491 vehicles and trailers carrying 1,500 men, divided into five march units—left the Helmstedt-Marienborn checkpoint at 06:34. At Marienborn, the Soviet checkpoint next to Helmstedt on the West German/East German border, US personnel were counted by guards. The column was 160 kilometres (100 mi) long, and covered 177 kilometres (110 mi) from Marienborn to Berlin in full battle gear. East German police watched from beside trees next to the autobahn all the way along.
The front of the convoy arrived at the outskirts of Berlin just before noon, to be met by Clay and Johnson, before parading through the streets of Berlin in front of a large crowd. At 04:00 on 21 August, Lyndon Johnson left West Berlin in the hands of Gen. Frederick O. Hartel and his brigade of 4,224 officers and men. Every three months for the next three and a half years, a new American battalion was rotated into West Berlin; each traveled by autobahn to demonstrate Allied rights.
The creation of the wall had important implications for both German states. By stemming the exodus of people from East Germany, the East German government was able to reassert its control over the country: in spite of discontent with the wall, economic problems caused by dual currency and the black market were largely eliminated. The economy in the GDR began to grow. But, the wall proved a public relations disaster for the communist bloc as a whole. Western powers used it in propaganda as a symbol of communist tyranny, particularly after East German border guards shot and killed would-be defectors. Hearing aids aren’t the sexiest gadgets on Earth, but Panasonic has done some interesting stuff with its R1-W series of in-ear audio-boosters. For one, they come packing Bluetooth for directly tethering to a mobile or landline phone using the Hearing Hub and have an add-on audio transmitter than can beam content from a TV or other source directly to the aids. The Hearing Hub also has a voice memo feature so that wearers can take notes for themselves and play them back in an easy to hear format.
