Officially, the armed services each have their own testing standards for hearing. The actual test is technical but basically involves listening to sounds of decreasing/increasing pitch, tone, and volume and your ability to follow said sounds to the end of the spectrum.
generally, it is not encouraged for people that have hearing disabilities to enlist in the military….mostly because the army will refuse to pay disability for something that you had pre-service. those that are in the military and then lose their hearing are often submitted for medical boards that encourage them to leave the service.
depending on your hearing "score," it may be determined that you do or do not qualify for certain jobs. some jobs that require less reliance upon sound have qualifiers that may allow you to enter.
However, the official answer to your question can only be answered by the service you wish to work for. Since the entire recruiting process (up until the time you actually swear into service…delayed entry programs are not binding) is FREE, you are allowed to submit to the battery of tests and then walk away should you either not be elligble for the job you want, or not at all.
good luck!

It's hard to know unless you know more about the genes. It could be a dominant trait that was passed to you but not your siblings, or a recessive trait that your siblings would have, too, but is not obvious in them. My sister has something that my grandmother has, but no one else does – not mt grandmother's siblings, my dad's siblings OR any of my other siblings or my cousins. DNA can be strange like that so it really is hard to tell who may or may not have certain genetic traits.

digitals are way overrated, they’re only designed for communication, backround noises sound weird in digitals, bird chirps and women with high tone voice sound robot like and the cars sound like jets or airplanes, it affects your awareness alot like your unable to hear people walking up behind, knocking on your door, lower sound effects and music backround in movies or tv shows, unable to enjoy listening to music, digitals are over hyped, analogs gives more natural hearing.

you should check with your department of health and human services. they have free clinics and doctors that can perscribe you and recomdend free medication and or medical devices. You also may want to check out any sort of living assistance, Medicare. Depending on where you live they have localized gov't health insurance for the uninsured. You may be qualified, or your parents, and use theirs depending on how old you are.

Studies involving lab animals are being undertaken by scientists for many years now in order to determine the possibility of a pill to lessen the harmful effects of noise to hearing. But this time, they will need to help of the Marines. Starting in a few months, a group of 600 Marines at Camp Pendleton in California will face rifle training with not only foam plugs in their ears, but also a drink that tastes very much like wild berry herbal tea. They are advised to take this drink with every meal as they participate in the notoriously loud training period that goes for two weeks, an event that is known to lessen the ability of the participant to hear by 10 percent. When everything turns out as expected, the substance infused into the dr … Hearing Aids, Hearing Test, Hearing Loss, Hearing Care

Hi Sara!
Protect your hearing at all cost. Like all things, you don't know what it's worth until it's gone.
If you are not sure, or comfortable, with your Doctor's initial diagnosis, seek another opinion.
Also, do you feel that the level of hearing loss you have is effecting your life in any way? Does it effect your ability to go about your life normally?
As to what can be done, that depends very much on what has/is causing the hearing loss.
I can say with intimate knowledge, once your hearing has gone, there is very little that can be done to return it to "normal".
I lost my hearing extremely suddenly and unexpectedly after getting a cold. The infection was that devastating, it just about completely destroyed the delicate hair folicles in my cochlear. I was given rapid steroid treatment, to try to stimulate some healing and growth, with very limited results.
I was fitted with 2 hearing aids, which gave me little benefit. I have since received a cochlear implant, and responding very well to my new way of hearing. All this has happened in the past 18 months.
But…it is not as good as natural hearing.
Most adults, in Australia it is about 1 in 6, have some level of hearing loss, and most know nothing about it.
My advise to you is simple.
If you aren't happy or sure, ask another professional, and keep asking until you understand, and accept, the diagnosis.
Protect and treasure what you have, and be aware of any change, no matter how small. If anything does change, see a specialist. Quick treatment can mean the world of difference.
Please value the fact that you CAN still hear, there are so many others out there who cannot.
All the best…

once the hair cells are damaged they are damaged. there is no magical-medicinal cure for a sensory/ neural hearing loss.
buck up and get your self some hearing aids. if you have a high frequency loss. make sure they have directional microphones and at the very least 8 channels so the audiologist has greater programming ease.

Hi DeafBoo, in response to your comment Kellie has a severe hearing loss and therefore requires a super powered aid. These are actually available from the NHS and are a lot smaller than the old analogues. There is a huge range of products available in different shapes and sizes but it does depend on the hearing loss with a super powered aid such as Kellie’s it requires larger battery power, hence its slightly larger size than the ones you wear.

“Yet, what we find when looking through the research — from a variety of sources to corroborate and back up any research we found — is that the overall entertainment ecosystem is in a real renaissance period. The sky truly is rising, not falling: the industry is growing both in terms of revenue and content. We split the report up into video & film, books, music and video games — and all four segments are showing significant growth (not shrinking) over the last decade. All of them are showing tremendous opportunity. The amount of content that they’re all producing is growing at an astounding rate (which again, is the most important thing). But revenue, too, is growing. Equally important is that rather than consumers just wanting to get stuff for free, they have continually spent a greater portion of their income on entertainment — with the percentage increasing by 15% from 2000 to 2008. “
