If your hearing isn't too bad then you can be fit with hearing aids that are called "open fit". This leaves your ear canal as open as possible- this combined with the amplification have helped a lot of people who suffer from tinnitus.
A GOOD QUALITY hearing aid is not cheap. You should expect to pay anywhere from 1200-2800 PER AID, and it can be more depending on where you live. But, keep in mind these are an investment that should help you for AT LEAST 5 years. Some insurances will cover a small portion of your hearing aids, but most don't. There is something called "Care Credit" that some audiologists use to help their patients finance their hearing aids…its similar to if you were to buy a home appliance and they offer you no interest for however many months.
But no matter what, you need to get a thorough evaluation by an audiologist and get their best recommendation. Don't go to Beltone, Walmart, Amplifone, Nu Ear, Miracle Ear, or any large chain…their first concern is making commission and hoping that you don't return your aids within the trial period. Go to a licensed audiologist who cares about your hearing over the sale.

I've been listening to loud music since I was 8. pretty much every single day in fact. i always loved music & its an addiction to me. & I listen to it loud. I'm 18 now & I do get headaches now but,I haven't noticed hearing loss yet. I'm trying to tone it down now before I do any serious damage

The privacy stuff is bad enough, but the wanting to be a centralized identity server for the web is what’s really freaky. If you are a veteran, try the local VA audiology department (under ENT).
Your state's Department of Rehabilitation. Many states cover the cost of hearing aids.

You shouldn't have a problem passing the test.
Even if you were completely deaf in one ear, you could pass.
If you can hear the doctor speaking to you at 6 feet, with your back turned, using BOTH ears, you will pass.
This is the primary test for the FAA Class 1 Medical Certificate. (and 2&3 as well)
If you fail the test, you can elect to have an audiometric test done.
Here are the actual requirements:
"Demonstrate hearing of an average conversational voice in a quiet room, using both ears at 6 feet, with the back turned to the examiner OR pass one of the audiometric tests below :
Audiometric speech discrimination test: (Score at least 70% discrimination in one ear) or:
Pure tone audiometric test: Unaided, with thresholds no worse than:

Contact your local Sertoma Club, a wonderful non-profit organization that's focus is on Speech & Hearing. Perhaps thru Chamber of Commerce would have a contact name. My club has paid for hearing aids & TDY machines for those in need in our own community.Also provided the local hospital with the new equipment to test new born babies hearing. Hearing Aids (HA) are very expensive. You can expect to pay up to $4000 for an individual HA if you want the latest and greatest technology available. Where do you live? I am originally from Canada and I got mine paid for by the federal government under a program to help people with disabilities get back into the work force. You may have a similar program in the country you reside.

Viewing speech from the perspective of consonant and vowel is not very useful as the majority of the languages in the world are not based on this. The more accurate modeling of human voice is LPC (Linear Predictive Coding). From wikipedia
"LPC starts with the assumption that a speech signal is produced by a buzzer at the end of a tube (voiced sounds), with occasional added hissing and popping sounds (sibilants and plosive sounds). Although apparently crude, this model is actually a close approximation to the reality of speech production. The glottis (the space between the vocal folds) produces the buzz, which is characterized by its intensity (loudness) and frequency (pitch). The vocal tract (the throat and mouth) forms the tube, which is characterized by its resonances, which give rise to formants, or enhanced frequency bands in the sound produced. Hisses and pops are generated by the action of the tongue, lips and throat during sibilants and plosives."
The latest technology in hearing aids is digital processing. Improving speech intelligibility is just one domain. This is called "Digital Speech Enhancement (DSE). These systems act to increase the relative intensity of some segments of speech. Current DSE processing identifies and enhances speech based either on temporal, or more recently, spectral content. DSE in hearing aids is still relatively new, and its effectiveness is largely unknown".
Other digital technology to improve hearing aids are:
1. enhanced gain control, either automatic or intelligent
2. feedback reduction
3. noise reduction
4. synthetic directional microphone
5. custom shaping of emphasis filters

My dad’s step brother is hald deaf and he married a deaf lady and they had 3 perfectly normal hearing kids, lucky. you can go to a doctor and he’ll operate your ear (will instal an artificial drumm) or u can stay like that…actually if the eardrum is perforated you won’t hear so good,and that;s just it.if you think that if the eardrum is broken you’ll be deaf,that’s not going to happen.
