My name is Zeff (zeph). i just turned 18, i’ve had hearing aids since i was 4. It was due to chronic ear infections. My dad’s step brother is hald deaf and he married a deaf lady and they had 3 perfectly normal hearing kids, lucky. Anyways. i watched this video and thought, hmm i’ve never met a hearing impaired female. i think your soooo beautiful.

Viewing speech from the perspective of consonant and vowel is not very useful as the majority of the languages in the world are not based on this. The more accurate modeling of human voice is LPC (Linear Predictive Coding). From wikipedia

"LPC starts with the assumption that a speech signal is produced by a buzzer at the end of a tube (voiced sounds), with occasional added hissing and popping sounds (sibilants and plosive sounds). Although apparently crude, this model is actually a close approximation to the reality of speech production. The glottis (the space between the vocal folds) produces the buzz, which is characterized by its intensity (loudness) and frequency (pitch). The vocal tract (the throat and mouth) forms the tube, which is characterized by its resonances, which give rise to formants, or enhanced frequency bands in the sound produced. Hisses and pops are generated by the action of the tongue, lips and throat during sibilants and plosives."

The latest technology in hearing aids is digital processing. Improving speech intelligibility is just one domain. This is called "Digital Speech Enhancement (DSE). These systems act to increase the relative intensity of some segments of speech. Current DSE processing identifies and enhances speech based either on temporal, or more recently, spectral content. DSE in hearing aids is still relatively new, and its effectiveness is largely unknown".

Other digital technology to improve hearing aids are:
1. enhanced gain control, either automatic or intelligent
2. feedback reduction
3. noise reduction
4. synthetic directional microphone
5. custom shaping of emphasis filters

Hearing Aids (HA) are very expensive. You can expect to pay up to $4000 for an individual HA if you want the latest and greatest technology available. Where do you live? I am originally from Canada and I got mine paid for by the federal government under a program to help people with disabilities get back into the work force. You may have a similar program in the country you reside.

Contact your local Sertoma Club, a wonderful non-profit organization that's focus is on Speech & Hearing. Perhaps thru Chamber of Commerce would have a contact name. My club has paid for hearing aids & TDY machines for those in need in our own community.Also provided the local hospital with the new equipment to test new born babies hearing. You shouldn't have a problem passing the test.
Even if you were completely deaf in one ear, you could pass.

If you can hear the doctor speaking to you at 6 feet, with your back turned, using BOTH ears, you will pass.

This is the primary test for the FAA Class 1 Medical Certificate. (and 2&3 as well)

If you fail the test, you can elect to have an audiometric test done.

Here are the actual requirements:

"Demonstrate hearing of an average conversational voice in a quiet room, using both ears at 6 feet, with the back turned to the examiner OR pass one of the audiometric tests below :

Audiometric speech discrimination test: (Score at least 70% discrimination in one ear) or:

Pure tone audiometric test: Unaided, with thresholds no worse than:
500Hz 1,000Hz 2,000Hz 3,000Hz
Better Ear 35Db 30Db 30Db 40Db
Worst Ear 35Db 50Db 50Db 60Db"
