I would suggest that people with hearing problems seek a second opinion,The problem with specialists is perhaps the cost. It’s even worth trying to get help abroad if on holiday.

I'm sorry to hear abt ur hearing loss. It's a sweet gift that we all take granted for. Don't be shy to ask people to repeat. U may want to learn a little sign language and lip reading. Have u talked to the doctors about any medical hearing aids u could use? If those hearing aids can't help u and it's more of a nerve damage then I suggest looking into having a cochlea implant. However I don't think any doctor will recommend it to u unless, I don't mean to upset u, u r virtually deaf. Then u may consider a cochlea implant which really is a medical wonder and the procedure is very easy and safe. However u should try taking care of ears as much as u can, avoiding loud decibels, wax in the ears, etc. Perhaps the damage could get better…but I don't want to give u false hope. I hope this helps. It has been a long time coming and an articulate plan. USA sold ALL of it's surplus to the Catholic Church several years ago.

Answer to that – more genetically engineered seed … now we are faced with global warming and dead soil, dead soil inviting in new diseases that are already running rampant and wiping out entire crops. Wheat crop for this winter is already estimated at 80% crop FAILURE …
News has shown this for several years and made warning; but, as long as people can go to the grocery store and buy what they want – they don't seem to hear that there is a major famine in the making. If you were smart – you would get some extra things and not tell your neighbor. Your neighbor may think that your son or daughter would taste just fine with some of your rice and dehydrated carrots. So – if you read Deuteronomy 28, you will see the message has been there for thousands of YEARS … it is really not a new thing – and you can rest assured … if you read Matthew chapter 24, you will see that this time that is coming WILL BE WORST THAN ANY OTHER TIME KNOWN TO MAN …

In older people who lose their hearing they do lose some quality of life because people stop talking to them on the same level—it's more superficial because it's harder for people with normal hearing to keep repeating themselves, so they cut things short. Hearing aids don't help with all types of hearing lose, so senior citizens with bad hearing get less and less quality time with others and to enjoy things like watching TV, music, movies, etc.
I don't know if I'd say there is a correlation between this and low self-esteem, though. I think the correlation would more likely be between hearing loss and depression.

You are on solid grounds, unless it was a porn industry that you were working for. You were subject to hostile working conditions. Under those circumstances even if you were to quit, you would still have had a good chance in securing unemployment benefits (constructive discharge). Jot down the specific instances of the porn/fighting etc., and that the boss knew about it. Also tell them that you were retaliated against for reporting the incident.
I think your boss is not so much concerned about the unemployment; as he is about a potential law suit by you involving hostile working conditions/sexual harassment. You need to contact the EEOC office where you reside, I think you may have a good case against them for retaliation as well.

Viewing speech from the perspective of consonant and vowel is not very useful as the majority of the languages in the world are not based on this. The more accurate modeling of human voice is LPC (Linear Predictive Coding). From wikipedia

The latest technology in hearing aids is digital processing. Improving speech intelligibility is just one domain. This is called "Digital Speech Enhancement (DSE). These systems act to increase the relative intensity of some segments of speech. Current DSE processing identifies and enhances speech based either on temporal, or more recently, spectral content. DSE in hearing aids is still relatively new, and its effectiveness is largely unknown".
Other digital technology to improve hearing aids are:
1. enhanced gain control, either automatic or intelligent
2. feedback reduction
3. noise reduction
4. synthetic directional microphone
5. custom shaping of emphasis filters
