Biomedical laboratory research is a subcategory of medical research. Medical research encompasses all types of research involving medical issues, including field work, clinical settings, survey analysis, statistical study of computerized medical databases, development of optimal treatment protocols, and many other research areas.

Biomedical laboratory research is a domain of medical research wherein the preponderance of work is performed in a laboratory setting. Nevertheless, it is a very broad field, which includes endocrinology, rheumatology, genetics, immunology, pharmacology, and many subspecialties of medicine. A Laboratory Technician or Laboratory Technologist can readily find careers in biomedical laboratory research, especially if they have a major or advanced degree in biology, chemistry, or biophysics. Masters degrees, PhDs, or an M.D. in any field of medicine, biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or psychology should provide many opportunities in medical research, as well as biomedical laboratory research.

The Salt Lake Tribune has a post that uses the Sunlight Foundation’s Party Time site to examine a fundraiser with Senators Bennett and Hatch:

Sens. Bob Bennett and Orrin Hatch threw Hoeven — who is running for the Senate — a golf fundraiser ($1,000 a person), followed by a reception fundraiser ($500 a person) Saturday, according to an invite posted by the Sunlight Foundation’s Party Time blog.

Sunlight notes that Bennett and Hoeven share the same fundraising consultants, the Bellwether Group, and adds that the evening reception is being held at the vacation home of Jeff Kimbell, a prominent health care lobbyist and a member of President George W. Bush’s transition team for the Department of Health and Human Services.

“First there was the discovery of dozens of bottles of 200-year-old champagne, but now salvage divers have recovered what they believe to be the world’s oldest beer, taking advertisers’ notion of ‘drinkability’ to another level.

Though the effort to lift the reserve of champagne had just ended, researchers uncovered a small collection of bottled beer on Wednesday from the same shipwreck south of the autonomous Aland Islands in the Baltic Sea.

“At the moment, we believe that these are by far the world’s oldest bottles of beer,” Rainer Juslin, permanent secretary of the island’s ministry of education, science and culture, told CNN on Friday via telephone from Mariehamn, the capital of the Aland Islands.”
