Silence is not truly golden for those facing the prospect of it for the rest of their lives, 20 million Americans are afflicted with hearing difficulties. In a bid to help their hearing many will look into the use of a hearing aid. Hearing aids were long frowned upon but after one former President told his story of hearing loss, such devices have become much more popular. This president used an in the ear canal hearing aid while appearing on national TV. What truly stood out was the fact he admitted to having a problem.

What a load of crap. Very un-imformative information about hearing aids. The people that sell hearing aids for a living are better versed to properly fit a hearing aid over a doctor. Doctors spend more time treating ear illnesses then learning the process to fit a hearing aid properly. Doctors are a business also. they see hundreds of people a week treating people because it takes up to six+ months to get paid from the insurance. Its not like that automatically makes them more qualified.

Tinnitus (ringing in the ears) is typically a sign some sort of damage has occurred to the auditory nerve. It can be temporary (after a loud concert or exposure to a loud sound) or permanent. It does not mean you have hearing loss yet. It could be years before you notice hearing loss.

Tinnitus is also caused by other factors then simply hearing loss. Caffeine, aspirin or other herbs/medications can intensify the ringing. Also some autoimmune diseases or vascular diseases have been shown to cause tinnitus.

If you suspect hearing loss, see an Audiologist for a hearing evaluation to obtain a baseline measurement. Second start protecting your hearing. Listen to your music at lower levels, purchase headphones that block out background noise so you listen at lower levels. Wear ear protection to concerts, while mowing the lawn, etc.

Today, one in ten or more than 28 million Americans suffers from hearing loss. By the year 2030, this number is expected to nearly double. The main cause of hearing loss for most people middle-aged or older is wear and tear. We are living longer, and advancing age is a big factor. As we age damage to the ear increases slowly. Over time, there is partial destruction of the hair cells in the ear from a combination of ordinary exposure to noise and noise bombardment.

That bombardment is a particular risk factor for baby boomers and younger people. Loud concerts and headphones are causing problems. And let's face it, the world is just a noisier place than it was 20 or even 10 years ago. And the noisier it gets, the louder people turn up their earphones to drown out the noise.

If you suspect hearing loss, you should be evaluated. If hearing loss is diagnosed, the most common solution is a hearing aid, but sometimes medical or surgical intervention is needed to improve hearing.

This will depend on your life style. Perfect hearing is -10 to 10, Normal hearing is 0 to -10 and Average is -10 to -20 dBs. Some people that are involved in Music will want a hearing aid if they are at -20 because they will be needing to hear some frequiencies more clearly.

GENERALY speaking, if you are at -30 and below in frequencies 250, 500, 750, 1000, 1200, 2000 —- You will want a digital hearing aid.

There is an American Guy in South America that I bought My Aids from. He works in Peru helping the Poor and the 3rd world people hear. He has a company called AccuToneUSA and he told me to send my Ear Impressions to Him. He build me 2 VERY nice 32 channel 64 band hearing aids for about $1200 total. hearing loss from stereo equipment occurs in the inner ear, the little hairs in the cochlea get damaged and eventually cannot detect sounds . Once this kind of hearing loss occurs it is usually permanent, the loss is often not noticed til later in life as the nerves begin to die. sorry to be the bearer f bad news but there are no " ear exercises " that return the lost hearing.

Check with the vocational rehabilitation department for your state. If you need the HAs to work, they may help you with the cost. Starkey Foundation gives away HAs as well. The other link is not well maintained, but has many sources for funding for hearing aids.

There are several hearing aid manufacturers with excellent technology available. Which one is best for YOUR mother can not be determined here. She needs a current hearing evaluation (less than six months old), and a Hearing Aid Evaluation, preferably to include a demonstration, so she can listen through hearing aids to experience what the sound is like. Also, don't consider just the hearing aid(s), also make sure you find an Audiologist that you feel you can trust and who establishes a good rapport with your mother, for the long term of service.

There are many variables to consider when choosing the best hearing aids for an individual. Here are some resources to help you find out more:

Of course it matters! Would somebody who wears glasses be impressed if they knew the person they saw wearing glasses in a video does not wear them usually. And anyway, I think you know most (I am not saying all!) people of this woman’s age who needed hearing aids would wear two, not one. Yes, it IS a cool hearing aid – but I wonder what Oticon did with it after this woman wore it! How about showing yourself in a video about hearing aids?
