An anonymous reader notes that CSIRO has sued Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile in — wait for it — East Texas District Court. “Australia’s peak science body stands to reap more than $1 billion from its lucrative Wi-Fi patent after already netting about $250 million from the world’s biggest technology companies, an intellectual property lawyer says. The CSIRO has spent years battling 14 technology giants including Dell, HP, Microsoft, Intel, Nintendo, and Toshiba for royalties and made a major breakthrough in April last year when the companies opted to avoid a jury hearing and settle for an estimated $250 million. Now, the organization is bringing the fight to the top three US mobile carriers in a new suit targeting Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and T-Mobile. It argues they have been selling devices that infringe its patents.”

You might want to research blogs on hearing aids or Hearing Planets to see if others have had similar experience and what they've done about it. I'm from Texas where nobody can even buy any medical grade equipment for home use. Only licensed qualified health facilities can, to be sure the sellers' items are up to specs and the buyers use them properly. I hate to say it, but on line it's always Buyer Beware!

The vuvuzela is not a popular instrument outside of South Africa. World Cup players from other nations complain that it breaks their concentration, broadcasters have trouble making their commentaries heard over the buzzing, and there is plenty of evidence that vuvuzela blasts can cause hearing loss and spread germs. Still, there is something special—something in the realm of dogs walking upright or porpoises tending bar—about a vuvuzela version of Ravel’s Bolero. Wind-instrumentalists from the Konzerthaus Berlin give it a shot in this video (the Bolero is at about 1:55, after a bit of vuvuzela’d Brahms and some discussion of how they managed to make this thing play more than one buzzing note). Probably best not to try this at home. Swanepoel de W, & Hall JW 3rd (2010). Football match spectator sound exposure and effect on hearing: a pretest-post-test study. if your in the car for example the person sitting next to you can talk in the microphone and you can hear them better. Because their mouth is closer to the microphone than your ear there is less noise from car etc. making it easier to hear them.

Have you considered creating a website about a subject that you enjoy and know a thing or two about? My wife and I have been running a few websites for about a year and are amazed at the results.
Basically you bulid a website with good/valuable information. People find your website when they are looking for the information you have written about. You make money when the seeker clicks your ads (from Google) or clicks/buys other things that are on your site (called Affiliate sales.)
To brainstorm the website idea, determine profitability, easily build the website, and optimize the web pages to get traffic we used a special web-based tool. The tool walks you through every step of the process with both video and text instructions. Its pretty amazing. You can see an example monthly commission check at the site below which is actually now out of date and lower than what we get now.
The website subjects we chose are surprisingly simple. Also, there are apparently people making 10x what we are earning on our site. Again, its amazing.
Check it out:

There are many local organizations that do assist persons with lower incomes in purchasing/obtaining hearing aids. I would recommend contacting your local Lions Club as they are the most prominent in most communities.
Also Healthy Hearing is an online consumer resource for persons with hearing loss and who wear hearing aids. They provide free consumer guides – one which is a comprehensive funding guide broken down by state and national organizations that assist persons in purchasing hearing aids. I highly recommend visiting the following section on their website to obtain that funding guide: http://www.healthyhearing.com/happy/.

“*Proof positive that the impacting planes alone did not bring down the Twin Towers.* Bullshit. People hearing what sounds like explosions is not evidence of any sort that explosives were present. The fact is that no traces of any type of explosives or explosive devices have ever been found in the debris of the WTC. Of course that will never stop the “truther” movement from spreading their lies.”

Vincent Tabak’s defence case ends with a statement from a neighbour at the building where he and Yeates lived in Bristol The defence case in the trial of Vincent Tabak has closed with a neighbour telling the jury that he did not hear anything unusual on the night of Joanna Yeates’s death. Other witnesses have reported hearing screams at around the time Yeates was killed at her flat in Bristol but the retired teacher Geoffrey Hardyman, who lives in the same building, said he heard nothing. After his statement was read to the jury, William Clegg QC, for Tabak, said the defence case was concluded. The jury was told it would hear closing speeches from the prosecution and defence on Tuesday. Tabak, a 33-year-old Dutch engineer, denies murdering his next-door neighbour, a 25-year-old landscape architect. He has admitted manslaughter. The defendant has claimed Yeates invited him into her flat in Clifton. He says she made a “flirtatious” remark to him and he attempted to kiss her. Tabak…

Writing for Boing Boing, Carl Malamud describes the campaign he’s been waging to let U.S. citizens read the public safety standards that have become part of federal law — without needing to pay for the privilege. “These public safety standards govern and protect a wide range of activity, from how bicycle helmets are constructed to how to test for lead in water to the safety characteristics of hearing aids and protective footwear.” Despite a U.S. Appeals Court ruling which said ‘the law’ should be in the public domain, many safety codes are still privately produced and then distributed for a fee, to recoup development costs. “Public.Resource.Org has a mission of making the law available to all citizens, and these technical standards are a big black hole in the legal universe. We’ve taken a gamble and spent $7,414.26 to buy 73 of these technical public safety standards that are incorporated into the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations.” Malamud and his Public.Resource.Org foundation are…
