once the hair cells are damaged they are damaged. there is no magical-medicinal cure for a sensory/ neural hearing loss.

buck up and get your self some hearing aids. if you have a high frequency loss. make sure they have directional microphones and at the very least 8 channels so the audiologist has greater programming ease.

There could be a number of possibilities going on such as endometriosis (just using endometriosis as an example only) but the only way to know for sure what is going on is to see your doctor for further evaluation of the situation to see what they think could be going on.

I speak sign language and i taught myself for i am partial deaf and read lips and they always forget because it cannot be seen it is a hidden disability and the fact that i can talk makes it even harder. I am so sorry but this world is full of people who really do not care so stick to the ones who do and remember god will never forget that you need help pray for assistance each day and soon Jesus will heal us all from the devastating effects of sin and apathetic uncaring people will no more exist . may peace be with you. A mixed hearing loss is a combination of a conductive hearing loss and a sensorineural hearing loss. The conductive component of mixed hearing losses are often temporary like how you describe for your son. If the conductive component is caused by middle ear fluid, the part of the hearing loss will more than likely get better.

The sensorineural component is permanent. And depending upon the degree of the sensorineural component, he may or may not require amplification from hearing aids.

I would recommend you consult your audiologist to discuss the effects of your son's hearing loss on his ability to hear and understand speech. He or she will be able to give you a better idea if he will possibly require hearing aids. It truly depends on his audiogram and your son's audiologist and ENT will be your best sources for determining the answer to this question.

Go to your optician (person in the eye doctor's office who adjusts glasses) while wearing your behind the ear (BTE) hearing aid and ask that the bow be adjusted to give you a better fit.
