No, it's not a Philippe Starck-designed hearing aid, although we kind of wish it were. What you're actually looking at is an over-the-ear sensor, dubbed the e-AR, made to mimic the human vestibular system. In layman's terms, this 3D accelerometer-equipped device, crafted by Sensixa, is capable of recording real-time information related to posture and orientation, much like the inner ear does, which is then relayed via an embedded low power radio to a remote receiver. The tech, which we spied passing through the FCC's gates, has already undergone several trials for sports and is now being eyed for use in geriatric care. (Take that, Life Alert pendants.) Interest piqued? Then feel free to peruse the rest of the filing and provided user's manual at the source below. Sensixa e-AR duplicates the inner ear, knows if you've fallen and can't get up originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 22 Jan 2012 01:52:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds.
Injury victims hire personal injury lawyer to improve their likelihood of receiving the right compensation. Accidents at work are among the most typical forms of personal injury cases. Workplace injury could include industrial disease cases like mesothelioma and asbestosis, chest diseases, occupational deafness, occupational stress, contact dermatitis and repetitive injury strain. Injuries brought on by accidents at work can occur in many different conditions and differ considerably in severity from mild lacerations and broken bones to serious burns, amputations and sometimes sadly, deaths.

Not knowing what brand of hearing aid you have, I'd have to say that the AHS# number is the serial number. Hearing aids aren't all that big, so there isn't much in the way of space for much more info, and the serial number wouldn't be on the inside of the unit. The only other place I'd look would be the inside of the battery door.

Hearing aids have two broad categories - analog and digital. Analog are the least expensive but are less customizable as digital models which use several technologies to give near-normal hearing. These hearing aids can be placed behind the ear (BTE), inside the ear (ITE), in the canal (ITC) or completely in the canal (CIC). BTE is the largest of the four, but is versatile as it can be used by people with mild or severe hearing loss. Because these are placed behind the ear, they don't give that somewhat occluded feeling inherent to in the ear models. ITE models, although smaller, but are detectable just the same.

remarks: Stop me having a baby ?

Amplify'd from www.bbc.co.uk
Should my hereditary disability stop me having a baby?
For Jono Lancaster, who has Treacher Collins syndrome, the decision about whether to have a baby or not is agonising.
At the age of 26, Jono is happy with how he looks, but the genetic disorder that affected the way his facial bones developed in the womb has caused him years of anguish.
His condition means he has no cheekbones - so his eyes droop downwards - and he has problems with his hearing, so has a bone-anchored hearing aid.

i'm an audiology student, so don't take this as perfect. from your story i dont think anyone could predict the amount of time you'll have hearing. i would just suggest looking into cochlear implants and planning for the future, should you lose the rest of your hearing. good luck

It would not produce profound deafness but would reduce volume and make sounds muffled.

Its true. If deafness is seen as a medical impairment (like polio) then encouragement of ASL would be like encouraging children to use a wheelchair, not learn to walk. ASL would be a 'crutch'. If seen as a language issue, THEN it would carry far more importance. Excellent points! ASL=Spanish=French=cultural identity.

How do you scratch it? If you stick your finger in deep and wiggle it, it could be two things - either you are creating a vaccum that then sucks on the ear drum, causing it to go convex when you pull your finger out. The taut condition of the eardrum, until it pops back on it's own, causes hearing distortion, because it can not vibrate. The other option is you have alot of ear wax and you are compacting it when you put your finger in to scratch but it opens back up on its own afterwards.

I have used hearing aids for the past seven years. I initially paid $1600.00 for a set of Siemens inner ear digital hearing aids which worked well, but required constant care and tuning by the audiologist. Worse, there was only a 3 year warranty. After that, warranty costs from aftermarket repair facilities are on average $250.00 and up per year. Frustated by the hype and upon learning that the same hearing aid is sold in other countries for as low as $300.00, I started to search for an alternative. During my research I found the Acoustitone PRO that was designed by an Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) doctor to be an affordable alternative. I paid $330 from Amazon for a set of two. Overall, they work almost as well as the much more expensive Siemens and other similar types, which are also ridiculously priced. They are FDA registered and Audiologist approved. They are also designed to be simple and rugged. I've had these for just over a month, and they have been trouble free. Best of all,...

I was shocked when my mother-in-law told me how much hers cost - but then I found out that they're tailored to the person specifically and can be adjusted throughout the person's life for free. It's really a good investment if you need better hearing. They're so tiny and don't just amplify sound - they're tailor made.

Portable medical electronic devices can be mainly divided into home type and professional type, of which, the former covers electronic sphygmomanometer, electronic blood glucose meter, electronic hearing aids, etc., and the latter includes portable electrocardiograph, portable multi-parameter monitor, portable ultrasonic tester, etc.

No deafness is not a common breed trait.

However- breeding continuously a genetic trait, such as blue, can cause some degree of skin, ear, eye, etc issues, especially in piebald dogs, and usually the problem affects the limb or organ that is primarily or mostly white.

Nabbed this off a forum after some googlin' research.

"The "dilution gene" that controls color gathers (for lack of a better term) around the Central Nerve Bundle (which is where the spinal cord and brain develope in the embryo). The problem is the dilution series, if not kept busy changing coat color, can then affect the adrenal gland, sensitive inner ear workings and even the nervous system itself. This can lead to unilateral or bilateral deafness...skin sensitivity (as with other light color coats) and even affect behavior since it affect the production of the adrenal gland.

If a dog has the double recessive diluted gene "d" AND has a more than 80% piebald look about the head...they ARE more susceptible to uni-bilateral hearing problems. In the embryonic stages, the genes that represent the "dd" genome gather around the "central nerve bundle" which is also where the spinal development occurs. On a dog that is also sp (piebald) or se (extreme white), the smaller the area of "color" (blue or liver) that is affected, the greater quantity of dilution gene is available to affect other systems. It will do more than a few things besides coat and eye color. It often damges the sensitive nerve endings in the inner ear which can lead to hearing problems. It can affect the production of the adrenal glands which can affect behavior. This is also a factor when it comes to possible skin problems...they can be a result of a nervous system weakness-which can cause allegies. They are located around the area of the "central nerve bundle" and can cause some types of skin allegies that are nervous system related. There is a lot involved when it comes to genetics, geno(DNA makeup) and pheno(outward appearance) that you can not just say..."it has nothing to do with"

In simple terms, the less coat color that the recessive "dd" gene has to act upon, the more is "leftover" to affect other systems.

Piebald is not a genetic deformity...it is a pattern of white. Just like "Blue" is not a genetic deformity. They are just genetic patterns/makeups than can in certain combinations of other factors make differentces in other seemingly unrelated structures.

Unilateral means 1 ear affected as bilateral means both ears affected. In theory, the ear your dog has with "color" would be less likely to have hearing issues but it is not always that simple.

Piebald which is "sp" genetically in itself is just a pattern that exhibits a greater quantity of "white" than say "si" (irish pattern/spotting) but less than "sw" (extreme white or all white). All these are still different than being "albino"...they are just degrees or percentages of white coloring. You could even have a dog that is "sisp" which would have the irish pattern of chest-paws-head blaze-tail tip-and possible neck blaze PLUS some pieblad which would probably show more "whiting" up the length of the legs and about the head and neck.

The "dd" is of more concern than "sp". I know that most will/would not accept the fact that "coloring" can affect behavior, but since the dillution genome can sometimes influence the production/characteristics of the adrenal gland...it can affect behavior. This might result in a dog that takes a bit longer to get "riled up". The difference between dogs might be "very slight", but if it affect adrenal production-it stands to reason it can affect behavior.

The point is just because a gene is recessive and may cause some maladies or changes...that does not mean it is a mutation. Now MLPH mutations can occur but are not the norm (along with mutations of two other similar loci). As in humans with Griscelli Syndrome, the mutation not only affects pigmentation (hypopigmentation-albinism) but also affects the transportation of melanins causing immunodeficiency by killing the "T-Cells" (known all too well to HIV-Aides Patients). The point I am trying to make is that the "dd" dilution alleles are not mutations....but color (pigmentation) is affected by many loci...not just one location. I am also trying to demonstrate that just the delivery of pigmentation...or misdelivery of pigmentation...does affect other systems of an organism. Nothing is Black or White...or Diluted Blue for that matter when it comes to genectics, pigmentation, endocrine system and so on."

It all just has to do with genetics, and breeding.

I just ordered an Icom today. I've worn hearing aids since I was 7 years old, I'm now 58, and recently got the Naidas in January. I'm excited about being able to get an iPod, and also use the Bluetooth technology on my cell phone. Thank you windsurf17 for the video, it answered several of my questions.

When we suspected my old dog had gone deaf, I went in another room and blew a loud whistle. My dog that could hear went nuts and the one we suspected was deaf barely raised her ears (so that told us she had a little bit of hearing left but not much).

I work with a girl who wears a hearing aid. She's told me how expensive they are and how insurance doesn't cover much of the cost. And they don't last long!
It's nice for the kids at Head Start to see them, but hopefully you find some one who can really use them.
There must be a school for deaf kids around.
