I'm Italian; here when someone is in your situation, usually the firms look for an agreement, in order to close the matter with the hearing.
So this hearing should not last so long; and maybe you'll be entitled to compensation in a short time. It also depends on you and your requests.
But usually, I repeat, this conciliation hearing is the only thing you'll have to do to reach an agreement, so there won't be anything else after it

The key is to see an audiologist. An audiologist has to have a minimum of a masters degree soon to be a doctorate degree to practice. They have extensive training on everything related to the ear as well as hearing aids and assistive devices. They are knowledgeable professionals who are not out there simply to make money selling hearing aids. They want to be sure that everyone has proper care for their hearing needs.

All cultures have something interesting about them. It is not that. People just want the same things. Who wants to be poor and uneducated ect.?. They just need to find a way to give a little more so, all people can get a fair share of the pie of life.

Sensorineural hearing loss is due to damage to the pathway for sound impulses from the hair cells of the inner ear to the auditory nerve and the brain. Possible causes include:
age-related hearing loss – the decline in hearing that many people experience as they get older
acoustic trauma (injury caused by loud noise) to the hair cells
viral infections of the inner ear (may be caused by viruses such as mumps or measles)
Ménière's disease (abnormal pressure in the inner ear)
certain drugs, such as aspirin, quinine and some antibiotics, which can affect the hair cells
acoustic neuroma, a benign (non-cancerous) tumour affecting the auditory nerve
viral infections of the auditory nerve (such as mumps and rubella)
infections or inflammation of the brain or brain covering – eg meningitis
multiple sclerosis
a brain tumour
a stroke

It's hard to know unless you know more about the genes. It could be a dominant trait that was passed to you but not your siblings, or a recessive trait that your siblings would have, too, but is not obvious in them. My sister has something that my grandmother has, but no one else does – not mt grandmother's siblings, my dad's siblings OR any of my other siblings or my cousins. DNA can be strange like that so it really is hard to tell who may or may not have certain genetic traits.

You don't mention whether you desire to be an airline pilot with a first class medical, a corporate pilot with a second class medical, or a private pilot with a third class medical, but in all cases the answers may be found at faa.gov in FAR Part 67.
For eyes, the answer is basically correctable to 20/20.
For hearing the answer is able to carry on a normal conversation without being shouted at.
Class I vision requirements
Sec. 67.103
Eye.
Eye standards for a first-class airman medical certificate are:
(a) Distant visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye separately, with or without corrective lenses. If corrective lenses (spectacles or contact lenses) are necessary for 20/20 vision, the person may be eligible only on the condition that corrective lenses are worn while exercising the privileges of an airman certificate.
(b) Near vision of 20/40 or better, Snellen equivalent, at 16 inches in each eye separately, with or without corrective lenses. If age 50 or older, near vision of 20/40 or better, Snellen equivalent, at both 16 inches and 32 inches in each eye separately, with or without corrective lenses.
(c) Ability to perceive those colors necessary for the safe performance of airman duties.
(d) Normal fields of vision.
(e) No acute or chronic pathological condition of either eye or adnexa that interferes with the proper function of an eye, that may reasonably be expected to progress to that degree, or that may reasonably be expected to be aggravated by flying.
(f) Bifoveal fixation and vergence-phoria relationship sufficient to prevent a break in fusion under conditions that may reasonably be expected to occur in performing airman duties. Tests for the factors named in this paragraph are not required except for persons found to have more than 1 prism diopter of hyperphoria, 6 prism diopters of esophoria, or 6 prism diopters of exophoria. If any of these values are exceeded, the Federal Air Surgeon may require the person to be examined by a qualified eye specialist to determine if there is bifoveal fixation and an adequate vergence-phoria relationship. However, if otherwise eligible, the person is issued a medical certificate pending the results of the examination.
Class I hearing requirments:
Sec. 67.105
Ear, nose, throat, and equilibrium.
Ear, nose, throat, and equilibrium standards for a first-class airman medical certificate are:
(a) The person shall demonstrate acceptable hearing by at least one of the following tests:
(1) Demonstrate an ability to hear an average conversational voice in a quiet room, using both ears, at a distance of 6 feet from the examiner, with the back turned to the examiner.
(2) Demonstrate an acceptable understanding of speech as determined by audiometric speech discrimination testing to a score of at least 70 percent obtained in one ear or in a sound field environment.
(3) Provide acceptable results of pure tone audiometric testing of unaided hearing acuity according to the following table of worst acceptable thresholds, using the calibration standards of the American National Standards Institute, 1969 (11 West 42d Street, New York, NY 10036):
Frequency (Hz) 500
Hz 1000
Hz 2000
Hz 3000
Hz
Better ear (Db) 35 30 30 40
Poorer ear (Db) 35 50 50 60
(b) No disease or condition of the middle or internal ear, nose, oral cavity, pharynx, or larynx that—
(1) Interferes with, or is aggravated by, flying or may reasonably be expected to do so; or
(2) Interferes with, or may reasonably be expected to interfere with, clear and effective speech communication.
(c) No disease or condition manifested by, or that may reasonably be expected to be manifested by, vertigo or a disturbance of equilibrium.
See faa.gov for more information, with regard to other classes.
I can't stress enough that many disqualifying conditions such as heart disease, kidney disease, vision problems, etc., may be overcome with a demonstrated waiver or other means. You won't know the real answer about whether your particular is a problem until you see an aviation medial examiner. If he/she refuses to issue a medical, then you will need to examine the waiver process. I personally know many airline pilots flying on waivers.
Good luck

ear buds gave me tinnitus and hyperacusius! It sucks to say the least!
June 30th, 2010 at 12:29 pm
You shouldn't have a problem passing the test.
Even if you were completely deaf in one ear, you could pass.
If you can hear the doctor speaking to you at 6 feet, with your back turned, using BOTH ears, you will pass.
This is the primary test for the FAA Class 1 Medical Certificate. (and 2&3 as well)
If you fail the test, you can elect to have an audiometric test done.
Here are the actual requirements:
"Demonstrate hearing of an average conversational voice in a quiet room, using both ears at 6 feet, with the back turned to the examiner OR pass one of the audiometric tests below :
Audiometric speech discrimination test: (Score at least 70% discrimination in one ear) or:
Pure tone audiometric test: Unaided, with thresholds no worse than:
500Hz 1,000Hz 2,000Hz 3,000Hz
Better Ear 35Db 30Db 30Db 40Db
Worst Ear 35Db 50Db 50Db 60Db"

Whadja say? Why People Don't Wear Their Hearing Aids (And What to Do) | Psychology Today
July 8th, 2010 at 6:27 am
I have had hearing aids since I was 3 years old. I am now over 85% deaf without them so hopefully I can help
It depends on your hearing loss. Since the doctor apparently has given you the choice of which model to wear, your hearing cannot be as bad as mine.
There is a difference as to the kind of aids that go in the ear:
ITC (in the canal) hearing aids are the small ones that some users can wear if their hearing is not bad (such as in your case). These fit completely in the canal and are taken out by grabbing a thin wire (almost resembles fishing line)and pulling the aid out of your ear.
ITE (in the ear) hearing aids, such as I wear, are for the more hard of hearing as they provide better amplification. These seem to be the industrial norm nowadays.
OTE (over the ear) hearing aids are bulky and cumbersome. Your age should be taken into account. I wore these when I was a child as they provide the Most amplification. However, because of their size and the hose that has to go from your ear mold to the aparattus behind your ear sticks out, alot of people dont like these type. Also, if you are active and get sweaty alot or work in a job environment where you dont want anything to get in the way, I wouldnt recommend these.
When I was a child I wore these until I was 18. At 18 I got the ITE hearing aids (they say your ears stop growing at around that age). If you try to outfit a child with ITE hearing aids, you would be going in every 6 months for new molds. A costly venture.
So, from what I can tell, your best bet is the ITC or ITE hearing aid. The ITC aid can be cumbersome to deal with, as it is so small.
My ITE hearing aid fits inside my entire ear and is visible in plain view. However they are still hardly noticeable. Whatever option you choose, make sure to request DIGITAL hearing aids. These allow for programmable settings and make it easier to use digital technology (such as cellphones) without feedback and noise. They are pretty much standard now.
The brand I have is oritron. They come with a 3 year warranty which is a big plus!

I wear one in each ear, so I can relate. I don't understand either, since they cost more than a computer, and don't do nearly as much! Custom fitting is a simple, inexpensive procedure using plastic; the circuitry is basically the same for all of them; etc.etc. There is no reason for such an expense. By the way I wear two recently purchased CIC models by Starkey, digitals with volume control, and they were only half the cost you cite.

You can best donate it to a number of charities, you should deal with one that provide professional assistance directly with hearing aids so that they hearing aid can safely fitted on to the newer person.
They are usually sent to third world countries.
However, it is not recommended that you sale or use another persons hearing aid. Think of it using someones dentures!
You can damage your or someone Else's hearing and also there is a possible chance disease transmission.
The Behind the Ear Types are the best see some sites you can donate below.

January 21st, 2011 at 8:37 pm
OK the loss of hearing occurs when you hear very loud noise for a while daily (ipods, Cd's, Music in general)
your ear is just like a drum when noise enters it hits the skin that's stretched over it and that signals to your head. hearing loss happens 2 ways
1.) if your exposed to loud noise daily your stretched skin stretches even more and it wont be able to vibrate as well and your brain wont receive as much signals.
2.) is when your skin rips, cuts, etc. so it wont be able to vibrate at all and this when you are no longer to hear at all from that ear
i hope this answered your question

I'm your age, and just got mine in february last year. I feel the same way. I'm the only kid my age in my school with them, and alot of kids have no idea what they are. I'm very self conscious with them, myself, and don't like wearing my hair up (although with sports, and fashion-wise, it's difficult). It's gotten so far that I have people sitting behind me reach out to touch them. WEIRD. I don't personally like the skin color ones, mainly because one of my teachers wears them, and they look like masses in the ear canal. Anyway, those are always an option. Often, i forget I'm wearing them! I'll be in the shower, and will need to check my ears. My best advice is to be confident. It seems a little weird, but just be confident and no one will notice. It sometimes help if i letmy hair hang a little lower over my ears, or if i let a tendril or 2 hang out. Just remember to be confident. Alot of the people in school have seen or talked to someone about their hearing aids before. It's no big deal. If you ever need some advice or whatever, feel free to e-mail me!

It can take a few weeks to a few months for the eardrum to heal on its own. As long as the the bones in the middle ear were not disrupted and no significant scar tissue forms on the eardrum, then you should regain your normal hearing when the eardrum heals completely. Occasionally, the perforation may need to be surgically repaired if it does not spontaneously heal.

Hello, I admire you ! Keep this smile ! I have just been to ENT specialist who advised me the BAHA, well I’m completely deaf from the right ear but the left one works pretty good. I am just afraid about the estetic side, no hair in the implant place + this permanent metal…. how is all this working for you on a daily basis? is it easy to maintain ? does it bother you when you sleep? (I meant the metal part)…. do your friends notice the Baha? I do have long hair too, I am sure this help
April 10th, 2011 at 4:21 pm
No, once you start killing off the little hairs that pick up the vibrations you can't regrow them and your hearing gets worse. I went to a concert many years ago and was right up front by the speakers and I couldn't hear anything but ringing for a wk. Ever since then my hearing is shot and I have a hard time hearing people if they whisper or are a soft talker.

Noise induced hearing loss is based on these principals
Intensity Level of Noise (decibel) vs Time Exposure vs Frequency.
Rule is the longer exposure in high levels of noise at those frequency the chance of noise induced hearing loss is to occur.
Like radiation the less time exposed as the higher rate of radiation occurs.
All noise producers produce sound in different decibel and frequency range, example is a electric motor hum versus a jet aircraft engine vs rifle shot vs drill vs lawn mower vs IPOD vs football/hockey/baseball/concert. Some are frequency specific (narrow band), some spread out ( broad band)
Any noise over 85dB can be harm-full with prolong exposure, so all ways, use hearing conservation products. There are products for every use and situation.
Yes, exposing mice for a x period and y noise level at z frequency will produce a specific noise induced hearing loss and that would show specifically on a audio-gram or after dissection of the hearing hair cells where areas are burned out.
They are looking at combinations of possible drug and noise protection therapy's but all ways use hearing protection at all times.

Yeah it can. what I do is find an old cup take the hearing aid an mould off the electrical part and put it in water over night and then use a hearing aid puffer, I think that's what it's called to blow the water out and leave it in an old cloth for about an hour before using them again, do this about twice a week and it will be allright.
But when the tubing starts to go off colour you best get a new mould and tubing.
